Review

This is that rare and delicious thing, a satire with a heart. Lois Cahall has written a Thelma and Louise for a credit-crunched world - a book so sharp and funny it would make Billy Wilder jealous. But Plan C is more than just the sum of its laughs. As Cahall skewers the ridiculous follies of modern life with a perfect six-inch heel, she also forgives all our vanities. Which is what makes this, finally, a surprisingly moving read. -- Simon Beaufoy Make it your A #1 priority to pick up Plan C. Lois Cahall has created a heroine you'll want to hang out with. Libby is a true girlfriend: hysterically funny, bawdy, and smart -- you'll laugh, cry, and commiserate with her to the point where once you've finally put Plan C down -- after you've read every word of it -- you'll miss spending time with her. -- Jessica Stedman Guff Racy, insouciant, uproarious, plugged-in and turned-on, Lois Cahall's Plan C is a breathless romp that knows all the best places to go, the worst people to avoid, and the perfect wisecrack to top off every occasion. It's a comedy precariously balanced on the awareness that the ground is shifting beneath the clicky heels of its sexy heroine, Libby Crockett, and the indignities of age are lying in ambush, ready to march up the driveway. But until then, kick back, raise a glass, and enjoy the ride. -- James Woolcott

Product Description

A screwball comedy with a heart. Thelma & Louise go to Europe. A revenge on midlife crisis. Plan A: We grow up, get married, have babies, white picket fence.

Plan B: Mortgages, marriages, mistresses, divorce, my kids, his kids, stepkids, blended families. College tuition. Empty nest. Empty soul.

Plan C: Cabernet, passports, jet lag, Ambien, Europe. Who needs reality?

Until we realize reality can't be avoided. And truth is, we don't want to avoid it. We are a nation of underdogs - a society of hope. Plan C is accepting life as it comes, with no plan at all.

Once upon a time there was a divorced, single mother named Libby Crockett, living and working her fingers to the bone on Cape Cod. Her Plan A had failed, and now she dreamed of a new life and a new love -- her Plan B. And Plan B worked! It brought her to glamorous New York to a new man, a new life...and his expensive ex, his out-of-control kids, and the biggest recession in 70 years. Was this really what Libby had been dreaming of? Maybe it was time for Plan C...

A friend recommended this book to me before I went off on holiday a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I put the beach towel on my chair, I fired up my Kindle and began reading 'Plan C'. Couldn't put it down. Really felt like I connected with the characters and could almost hear the author reading it to me. A very good read and looking forward to reading 'Plan D'

Like other reviewers, I abandoned this long before the end and can't remember the last time I did such a thing. It's truly appalling. Dull as ditchwater. Nonsense characters who don't exist in real life, no proper plot or story that I could discern.

And it's not just a poor writer. I know a lot of people struggle with punctuation, and especially the apostrophe, but a publisher/editor really should be able to get it right.

I can't think why on earth I downloaded it. Probably the words "Thelma & Louise" and "screwball comedy" in the product description. This book doesn't live up to those claims in any way. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I am glad that I bought this as a Kindle daily deal. I would hate to think that I had wasted even more money on such a book. The story for me never materialised apart from an over interest in the male organ. I gave up after I had read 20% as I could take no more. Can I have my money back please?!

Dull plot; unsympathetic characters
Oh dear. A very poor attempt to tap into the Sex and the City fanbase, I think. I could feel no sympathy whatsoever for a main character who so obviously has a partner who is... Read more

Sorry, I cannot even award this book 1star. What a load of utter trash. The female, Libby, in this story says that she has been with her partner, Ben, for ten years. Read more

Everyone should have a Plan C
This is a great story balancing work, family life and the love life of a middle aged woman. The book takes you on the journey of her life and how things don't always go to plan.

A surreal story, enlivened by a terrific sense of humour. I wish we had a library like the one in the story. It was like looking through the world through the eyes of a teenager. Read more

You know Ben, in the beginning of a relationship, when things are going wrong, women fight for what they believe in. But, I told you the day I stop fighting for my rights is the day that its truly over. Because one day we wake up and we just dont care anymore. We give up. We cant make it work. "e;
