By Helen Hancox TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is a short book which takes a look at the Beatitudes as rather more than just a poetic introduction to the Sermon On The Mount. Dave Andrews considers each saying individually, showing how Jesus's words were a call to radical and peaceful living. The chapter on "Blessed are the pure in heart" was particularly good but the overall standard of the chapters was high. However the end of the book meandered off into a rather strange discussion about t-shirts and other oddments that didn't feel like it fit very well with what had gone before. The highly pacifist and anti-George Bush stance of this book might put some people off but it was a worthwhile read, if rather short at 93 pages.

Plan Be - Grade A! 11 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
The Sermon on the Mount is only a few pages long but it gives us incredible insights into the way Jesus saw the world around him, and the dream he possessed about how it could be transformed. The opening statements of that Sermon are commonly known as the Beatitudes and this is what Plan Be is all about. Andrew's uses the text to critique our contemporary worldview and culture in exactly the way that Jesus was critiquing that of the first century Judeo-Roman world. And sometimes the truth hurts. In the same way that Jesus would have divided opinion in the crowds around him on that Galilean hillside Andrew's retelling will no doubt divide opinion too. I would recommend this little book (only about 100 pages) to anyone brave enough to be honest about the compromise in their life, anyone willing to be challenged to live with greater authenticity and integrity. It's also perfect discussion material for small groups.
