This trilogy simply ran out of new and interesting ideas as it went on. Plague Year (the 1st in the series) was great, Plague War (the 2nd) started well but then degenerated into simple handle turning. Plague Zone (this book) added nothing new other than a bizarre and unnecessary attempt to jump on the recent zombie bandwagon. The ending lacked imagination and simply left the door open to follow ups. Having said that the book was well written and as in the other books had some really interesting character examination. I hope that the next book from the author takes more time to come up with new realistic ideas and is as thought provoking as the first in this series.

WOW!

A totally unique entry into the world of apocalypse. Here we see a world where a 'nano-plague' has distinguished all life below 10,000 feet. We get to see the survivors eek out a sorry existence in the harsh, barren enviroment of mountain tops, unable to travel below the 'threshold'.

The story is more technothriller than horror, but the feeling of isolation that the characters feel is really well done. In the later novels, the story becomes more epic and happens on a global scale, with international conflict between nations. Damn you China!

In addition to the many well-rounded characters and an accurate representation of a crumbling Government, the main character, Cam, is likeable yet flawed in the ways that all good protagonists should be. His emotional turmoil is later expounded by the physical agony that all of the plague survivors experience and this leads to a constant mood of pain, anguish, and bleak depression. But the glint of human spirit is present on every page and that's why we keep reading! We want the world to make it and we bleed, burn, and starve with the characters as they struggle to survive each day. In my mind that's what all worthwhile apocalyptic novels should strive for...

If you haven't yet read Jeff Carlson's work, I would suggest you purchase the entire Plague Year trilogy as I guarantee that you will want to move straight on to the next novels in the series as soon as you finish the previous ones. I brought them seperately, and the wait between was agonising, so don't do that to yourself. This story is a trilogy so buy them all!

Loved the Zombie band wagon, simply awesome end of the series.
What I liked about this book & the whole series was that Carlson (the Dude) kept it punchy & real. I guess all three books could have been longer but then of course you run the risk of padding & waffle.
Flawed heroes, edge of the seat suspense grraaaaahhhh what more do you want............More, More, More. Keep 'em coming Mr C.

Excellent finale to the Plague trilogy. Faster paced than the previous two, this wraps up the series very well. The characters stay true to form, and there are a few surprises on the way. The Chinese as the 'baddies' make believable reading and the final fight scene is very well done. Great book, great series.

This is a fantastic end to a brilliant trilogy (plague year then plague wars) Carlson does not beat about the bush, there is no fat in these stories of an american wasteland. Characters are very beleivable, warts and all! you can read this one as a one-off story, but i would strongly reccommend you read the trilogy. There are a lot of post apocalyptic books around but none as good as this, Nanotechnology on the loose, china and russia on state soil, nuclear bombs turning parts of america into deserts!! Carlson makes you beleive what it would feel like to be on the edge of a nuclear blast, you have to catch your breath! Give your brain a treat and purchase these very believable and intelligent stories of future war and survival.

After the private harrowing drama of Plague Year, and the wider political maneuverings of Plague War, Plague Zone charts how Ruth, Cam, and others--including a senior enemy solider with a lethal secret--deal with the unleashing of another terrible wave of nanotech with altogether different, but equally terrifying, consequences to the original machine plague.

A devastating critique of the military mindset and the consequences of diplomatic failure, Ruth et al, all carrying heavy burdens, manage to retain some semblance of humanity while they deal with the relentless horror all around. Plague Zone is a realistic examination of the tenacity of the human spirit, a rollercoaster of frightening action sequences, and a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. All I want now is to see the vision transferred to the big screen!

Third book didn't disappoint and the plot drew you in to continue reading. As the characters developed, so the "plot thickened"! Thoroughly enjoyable, good ending and really plausible characters. Loved it!
