Format:Audio CD
I bought this album because I had heard some of Diamanda Galas' songs and had heard this was a good place to start. Turns out it probably isn't. This particular CD isn't so much a musical album as a theatrical performance committed to record. There is barely any music in the style of albums like The Singer or Malediction And Prayer, and the version of Let My People Go I had originally heard was a different, and more musical, version than the one on here. It's very odd, no-one anywhere had thought to point out that this isn't really a music CD.
Still, what is there is a very effective performance about the treatment of AIDS victims and the reaction of religious leaders and the far right to the epidemic. At times it is cryptic, painful, scary, moving, and occasionally a bit pretentious. It is almost certainly not something you will listen to often, but it is worth it. Even though I was disappointed at having bought something different to what I thought, I still appreciatted how good it really was.

This unruly creature has such talent that it leaves you mesmerized! This album was recorded live at the Cathedral of St. John The Divine, in NYC. If you really want to know what Diamanda Galas is all about this is the perfect album to purchase! It includes a booklet with some of the live photos taken during her presentations. And it has an excellent explanation of her mission. Lyrics are also included for your pleasure. My favorites areSONO L'ANTICRISTO, THIS IS THE LAW OF THE PLAGUE, and THERE ARE NO MORE TICKETS TO THE FUNERAL. This is amazing! Diamanda Galas is known for singing in various languages and it is truly accentuated here! Her work makes you feel every inch of anger, pain, fear in your body and beyond! If you seek music beyond the bizarre, this is ultimately recommended!!!

I discovered the voice of Ms. Galas using Spotify and I was hooked. Her voice has moved me in a way which I never thought possible, and so I got her Magnum opus, her Plague Mass: End of The Epidemic 1984. Simply terrifying but in a wonderfully enjoyable and fulfilling way. Her music may put harmonic shards of glass into your head as well as almost move you to tears. Her anger towards the people she feels is responsible for the terrible impact AIDS is staggering. A must have, for all collectors of different music. Play the disc as directed (a.k.a at Max Volume) and prepare to be taken on possibly the most harrowing journey music can take!! Highly recommended
