THE DEADLIEST DISEASE IN HISTORY . . .

A lethal pathogen appears on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Dr. Samantha Bower of the Centers for Disease Control is handed the case and assigned to investigate its containment and origins.

A MYSTERIOUS FIGURE WHO ISN'T WHAT HE APPEARS TO BE . . .

Dr. Bower finds a microorganism unlike any she has run across in her lifetime. The symptomology points her to the most destructive disease in human history. One man has offered her help. A man with insight into the disease who reveals nothing about himself or his past.

THE WORLD ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF . . .

Dr. Bower discovers that there are forces at work she can't understand. All applying pressure to use the chaos of an epidemic to their advantage. But there is one thing she is certain of: humanity may soon be an endangered species . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Medical mayhem 25 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a real page turner - I was enthralled by the fast pace and unfolding story although the end was a little disappointing and I was imagining all sorts of terrible possibilities. A thoroughly good read and highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plague, I'm still mulling this one over! 5 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded this when it was free as I haven't read any medical thrillers in a long time.

The story begins in the forests of South America where a group of people are trekking, one man is taken ill and dies rather suddenly in hospital with some strange symptoms. However, it is not until the tour guide arrives home in Hawaii with the same symptoms that things start to go drastically wrong.

Throughout the book we are introduced to more and more characters and to be honest I did start to get a little confused about who was who as they all belonged to organisations such as the CDC or FBI or other such places, I started to get some of them mixed up! Basically it takes a long time for the authorities to realise that a rather infections and contagious virus is killing a large amount of the population on the small island of Hawaii. By the time the magnitude of the situation is understood it looks like it could be too late for the whole of mankind. Add into this a secretive agent who isn't who he claims to be and you will be guessing who done it for the whole book, in fact not only who done it, but what they did and why.

It's the sort of book that makes you think about society and how things could be very different if a deadly virus was actually discovered. It keeps you thinking about it a few days after you finish the book too, I like it when a book makes me think even after I've finished reading it!

Warning - Some of the medical bits/patients symptoms in the book are quite graphic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling - read it in one sitting 25 Aug 2012

I am a cheapskate and have become mildly addicted to getting free books for my kindle. Just one click for an afternoon of reading pleasure! Free books can be a bit hit and miss but hard to really complain as they are free.

This book is definitely one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. From the first sentence I was hooked. I am generally not a medical thriller fan (as most of them have show off medical jargon which slows down the pace) but the fast pace of this book and the gripping plot had me up late to find out more.

The story is about a deadly disease that could kill off the world population if not dealt with pronto. There are twists, shady characters and dodgy "forces at work" that the heroine has to fight against. It is isn't the kind of book that will win prizes or have you thinking about it long after it has been finished. BUT it is definitely an exciting read. Something to read in one go or take on holiday. A book with simple, straight forward language that isn't too taxing on your brain cells but hugely ENJOYABLE.

If all free thrillers were as pleasurable as this I might not pay good money for another thriller again.

A gripping story, without too many characters in it. Very realistic concepts, leaving the reader wondering if this could really happen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plague - Victor Methos
A popular theme for medical thrillers. Some unusual twists and a few surprises. Some of the scenarios seem a little unrealistic, particulary some of the relationships portrayed. Read more
