Meeting of great musical minds,
By
This review is from: Places Between - John Williams & John Etheridge Live in Dublin (Audio CD)
How wonderful this CD is - the electric guitar, the acoustic guitar and the spanish guitar played by two masters at the top of their game. And the influences that they bring together from all over the world - Africa various countries, United States, Latin America various countries, Europe and all sorts of places between. There are 18 tracks and I love them in different ways. There is the pure joy of track 6 from Francis Bebey based on a popular Cameroonian dance. There is the sad nostalgic feel of track 11 Triangular Situations. There is gut wrenching excitement in the conclusion of Peace, Love and Guitars as the guitars meet together and race through the final section. Bach meets Billie Holiday (tracks 2-4 and 8). There is a Slow Dub by John Williams (7) and Places Between by John Etheridge (13). There is plenty of improvisation. There is a gem of classical repertoire, a solo by John Williams, in La Ultima Cancion by Agustin Barrios Mangore (track 9). The last track brings a gentle conclusion in the melting of guitar technique in Mitopa (track 18). How wonderful is this CD !

Guitar Virtuosity,
This review is from: Places Between - John Williams & John Etheridge Live in Dublin (Audio CD)
This is, once again, John Williams at his best. I had not heard of John Etheridge prior to recently booking tickets for their upcoming visit to The Derngate in Northampton (one venue of a country wide tour) but he is also a fine instrumentalist and they compliment each other superbly on this live recording from their Dublin show.

This review is from: Places Between - John Williams & John Etheridge Live in Dublin (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic CD. I purchased it just before seeing the very talented John Williams and John Etheridge on their recent live tour which was breath-taking. There is a variety of music styles from around the world including John William's own compositions. Enjoy!
