Biography

There are few artists whose names are synonymous with one instrument and how it's played in service to an entire genre.

Utter the phrase "young blues guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Still barely in his 30s, the Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has… Read more in Amazon's Kenny Wayne Shepherd Store

Ok, but not great 6 Nov 2004
By Nicholas F. Holliday VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
The Place You`re In is Shepherd`s fourth album and in it he`s departed from the blues/rock of the previous three and produced instead a set of US Rock Radio freindly AOR tunes. Now, that`s fine if you like that kind of thing, but so different from his other albums that he appears to be aiming for an entirely new audience and could easily lose many of the fans he already has. He appears to have already pre-empted such criticsm in the track "Ain`t Selling Out", which basically says if you don`t like me, tough luck. The second track sounds like it was written and performed by Lenny Kravitz and the rest meld into one another to form a largely unmemorable mass off remarkably similar tunes.
Perhaps the seeds of this change were sown in earlier albums with tracks like Slow Ride and the bombastic Oh Well, so if you liked those you may well enjoy this.
With KWS leaving the blues behind and Jonny Lang allegedly going Heavy Metal, there may be some tough times ahead for good old fashioned blues/rock.

total change 25 Sep 2005
Format:Audio CD
Bought the albun on the back of listening to Kennys earlier stuff, good driving blues rooted rock.
This new album has lost the blues influence as well as the vocalist making it less apealing to me.
Its basicaly a rock album thats ok, it didnt inspire me in the same way as the Live on album.
If your a blues fan forget it. Rock on.

A Change of Direction 23 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD
A bit different to his earlier cds, less straight blues and a heavier feel. When I first heard it I was a little bit surprised and disappointed, but after about four or five plays it has started to grow on me,and now I think it is an excellent album. The one disapponting track for me is sung by Kid Rock, but overall it is a great rock album, even though it is definitely a huge change in direction from his first two albums
