Product Description

This guide to person–centered place design shows architects, landscape architects, and interior designers how to develop spaces that enrich human experience using concepts derived from qualitative and quantitative research. Design practitioners will find applied, accessible environmental psychological insights into how elements of the physical environment such as colors, scents, textures, and the spatial composition of a room influence human attitudes and behaviors and how such factors as personality and national culture also come into play. The lessons are applied to multiple building types, including residences, offices, healthcare facilities, schools, and retail, as well as landscapes surrounding buildings.

Insights of Place Psychology written with simplicity and depth 5 Aug 2009
By Brit Lit/Brit Flick Fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a design consultant who integrates Architectural Psychology into my work, I am always on the lookout for new information. Sally Augustin gives us a distillation of the best of environmental psychology. And she writes clearly and fluidly - no dense jargon-laden prose or dry statistical-ese.

Augustin bridges the communication gap between social scientists and the design community. Although technically a text/reference book it is organized and written so well, that even a non-designer can learn from these pages. This is real science made accessible, not pop-psych.

The organizing concepts Augustin uses are places for: comforting, communicating, complying, challenging and continuing.

I was especially delighted by the chapter on Personality and Place - new information to help create spaces for people and their many personality needs/preference. This will add a new depth of knowledge to my work with clients.

I will be referring to this book again and again.
