Product Description

Product Description

In 1992 the Pixies disbanded after releasing four acclaimed albums and one mini-album in a five-year period. The Pixies are widely regarded as one of the most important rock bands of the past 20 years-and influenced a new wave of alternative bands with their Quiet/Loud/Quiet song structure. Paraphrasing Kurt Cobain: "Nirvana would not have existed without the Pixies." Since the band split up, the leader, Black Francis, started a solo career as Frank Black, and Kim Deal, the bassist and vocalist, went on to form The Breeders. The band reunited in 2004 for a trimphant worldwide tour that saw the band playing better than ever, injecting the classic songs with renewed energy and universal critical response. The band's legacy and reputation has only grown stronger in the 12 years since they broke up, see her as the play in front of enthusiastic audiences, far larger than they had drawn in their heyday.

The Pixies Sell Out 2004 Reunion tour has got to be one of the best music dvd releases of 2005,containing a full un-interupted concert from Eurockeennes festival in France And 15 bonus tracks from various venues around the world.
Firstly the Eurockeennes Festival... This contains 28 Songs filmed mixed in 5.1 surround sound if your system supports this(superb mixing!!!) an excellent performance capturing the pure energy and genius that The Pixies were in the early 1990's.
The DVD also contains bonus tracks and interview's(you even have the choice to cut-out the interviews if you choose and just watch the performances)so you can watch the interview's seperately.
The bonus song's are from gigs from all over the world including...The Move Festival Manchester, T in The Park,Fuji Rock Festival Japan,Voodoo Festival New Orleans,+ more there is also a Monkey Gone To Heaven(MX) this has multi camera angles so you can switch between 5 different angles.
The total duration of the dvd is approx 142 mins.
If your a new Pixies Fan or a veteran this is a must, Excellent editing and production topped with the Wall of sound that is The Pixies!!!

In short, buy this DVD if you have even just heard of the Pixies! This seminal band inspired a generation of bands, including Nirvana [Kurt Cobain described Smells Like Teen Spirit like a poor man's Pixies number] until 1992, when they split up, and they since reformed in 2004. Singer and rythmn guitarist Frank Black [known as Black Francis in the Pixies, real name Charles Thompson III]is an excellent frontman, along with Kim Deal's thumping basslines and Joey Santiago's top lead guitar underpinned by David Lovering's powerful drumming. The main concert footage here is excellent, but the bonuses are, for me, what make the DVD special, culminating in a multi angle Monkey Gone to Heaven. Buy it, a must have for any music fan's collection. Enjoy.

You'd know it was more exciting being there than it is to sit at home watching this DVD. This tourfilm is, of course, required viewing for all Pixies diehards(newcomers should check out the other DVD available). Still, I can't help feeling a little slighted by the absence of footage from London; I went to the third of four nights at Brixton and I can assure you it was a more exciting gig than the complete show from France presented here. Indeed, the setlist, though commonplace, is strangely ordered so that the show's opening is the most lowkey start to a Pixies gig imaginable. From then on it is medium high rather than blistering - at least until Crackity Jones kicks-in a run of scorchers that really should have been in at the start. Did they really not play Debaser at this show? I'm surprised they weren't lynched.
The bonuses are all very welcome and I know I will cherish this as another memento of the live experience I never dreamed I'd have after they split in 1993. I would recommend as well the bootleg footage of their Glastonbury set (1989, if you can locate it), as well as the elusive 1991 Brixton professional film (also difficult to find). Happy hunting.

They are old, they are fat, but they still know how to do it. In some part of my life I though it was impossible to see a Pixies concert, but that becomes real in 2004 when they get toghether and I have the chance to see a great show. The DVD was no surprise cause I know what would I get and it worth every penny. Recommend!

This is a great concert dvd. 28 songs from their european festival coupled with bonus tracks from the Move festival, etc. The dvd runs for over two hours and the quality (video and audio) is very good. A must-buy for Pixies fans.
