I was hooked,
This review is from: The Pissed-Off Parents Club (Paperback)
I loved this book. I was hooked from the first page and I've laughed my way through it as well as giving many sighs of recognition at the author's observations about parenthood. I identified with Roxy and really like the way things aren't sugar coated for us. At the same time though there's a happy ending and a sense of resolution which left me feeling really uplifted. I'll definitely be reading this author's next offering. Great stuff.

Mostly enjoyable,

This review is from: The Pissed-Off Parents Club (Paperback)
This is an enjoyable book for the most part. It is quite amusing at times and most parents will recognise many of the ambivalent feelings that the heroine Roxie has about parenthood. It's refreshing in that Roxie, unlike most heroines in this type of novel, doesn't have a string of men lusting after her and at 11 stone +, her weight problem is a real one, not the imaginary one of many 'string bean' protagonists. Struggling with her relationship, becoming a parent and a move to the country, Roxie sets up a Pissed off Parents Club and through this begins to cope better with her problems. Along the way there are some amusing incidents but the main problem is that there just isn't much of a plot to keep the novel racing along. Some decent subplots might have helped. So, a good read all in all but I do feel it could have been much better.

I'm never attracted to chick-lit novels, but the title and the jacket of this book really stood out on the shelves and I'm so pleased I bought this. It manages to be both insightful and laugh-out-loud funny, the type of read you can devour in a few sittings. I found it very true to life - it could almost have been written about me, so I take my hat off to the author for writing about the side of new motherhood that is seldom talked about.
