I've noticed a trend with using pirates in m/m romance but I think this one was very well written. Hot, erotic and usually historical m/m romances can be anything but that, but GA Hauser weaves a little magic and proves men in love wearing breeches can always be sexy.
Pirates is amazing! GA Hauser takes us to a place of swashbuckling men and transports us there on deck with the crew and the dangers and temptations. Pirates first introduces a young beautiful man by the name of Justin Taylor a stowaway on His Revenge, Captain Richard Jones ship. Richard is on his last voyage on His Revenge wanting to go back to his beloved fiancee back home, but before he is able to do that he must hit one last time to the waters and make his fortune. Justin Taylor is leaving behind a life of abuse and neglect to the open seas, but when he is caught on His Revenge he learns quickly a lithe beautiful young man is a temptation especially to the lonely men at sea.
Richard decides to keep Justin under his protection, but this innocent lad finds the handsome Captain a temptation as well and can't help himself but to seduce him. But while Richard and Justin reacquaint themselves in the Captain's room, there are those willing to separate them out of jealousy and lust. But soon their voyage will come to an end and Richard will have to say goodbye to Justin, but as ready as he is to throw away his life lead at sea other dangers on land make themselves known as an enemy from the past present's itself, it is time for Richard to finally make it go away. But even then what of young Justin? Will Richard take the plunge and claim the beautiful young man as his own, or will he walk away fortunes and all having left to forget of this precious Jewel.
I loved how Justin an innocent at first is made welcomed by the crew of the ship, first as a lusty figure [and throughout the whole book continuous to be one], then as a crewman who gets himself into comedic situations [IE the chicken incident]and then soon after as the lover of the Captain and later grows into a man of his own. His and Richards slow seductions at night in their bunker is erotic and seductive [something GA Hauser is very known for]I loved the progression of pirates even if the introduction of a new enemy came at the end and didn't flow very well as much as I would have liked it to, if anything the solution was quick and I liked that it was so because then I didn't have to worry about it.
As an avid m/m reader I know what I like and what I don't like, so I was a little hesitant to read GA Hauser again. Ms Hauser is talented and can cause the pages to incinerate from the way she writes love scenes between her characters from sweet teasing seductions or full blown sex, she knows what rocks our socks but she has caused me a bit of heartache before as well. Relationships are subjected to the worst obstacles that keep your heart racing from temptation to cheating and so forth, I'm a vanilla girl when it comes to relationships, so I find it hard to pick a GA Hauser book some of the time maybe that's why I found Pirates to be a favorite read. Its erotic, sexy and delicious and I ate everything up, there is trouble in paradise and temptation but it is temptation I can handle because it does not effect the relationship. Pirates is sexy and I mean it with a capital SEX I recommend it to all m/m romance fans as well as the erotic, you can't go wrong with Pirates from GA Hauser, a keeper for anyone's collection.
