Product Description

Venture onto the high seas in this illustrated book that explores the history of pirates from the days of the ancient Greeks through to the bloodthirsty buccaneers of the 18th century. Every spread contains bright and detailed original colour illustrations that reveal all there is to know about the world of pirates, including an exploration of an authentic pirate galleon, a visit to a notorious pirate port and a pirate ship wrecked at the bottom of the ocean, waiting to reveal its hidden treasure...It contains over fifty flaps, which children can lift to delve further into the world of pirates, parrots, pieces of eight and barrels of rum. In addition to being hugely entertaining, this book is also immensely informative and is packed with accurate historical information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good once the flaps are crowbarred open., 14 Jan 2008
By TG (UK) - See all my reviews
Really good looking colourful book. Each double spread has a different cartoony pirate scene on it (Attack, Celebration, Pirate Town etc). There is some sort of text which goes with these but my 4 year old was just happy to pour over the very intricate detail on each page. There really is a lot to see on each page but with some odd inclusions. For example the blood on the back of a pirate being lashed was a bit of a surprise and might be a concern for some children.
When it comes to the flaps there are a lot on each page and, generally, they're pretty interesting. The only real downside is how difficult they are to open the first time.
Overall very interesting and worth buying - if you're into pirates of course.
