Lake Victoria is a quiet, beachside resort, which only livens up for Spring Break, when 50,000 students turn up looking for sun, sea, sangria and sex. Elizabeth Shue plays the local sheriff, a pretty, ball-breaking, single mother MILF, who's job it is to keep the drunken hordes in check. She has a teenage, pretty-boy son, Jake. Kelly Brook and Riley Steele (Riley is a very well known XXX rated actress), play two vacationers.
An Earth tremor splinters the lake floor, releasing a million hungry piranhas, who've been trapped for two million years. The film is then a battle for survival between humans and piranhas. I watched the movie both in 2D and 3D, unfortunately the 3D effect isn't that good.
Kelly and Riley go on a boat trip, accompanied by Jake, and there's an extended 10 minute sequence when the two girls go swimming together, naked in the lake, which includes some flashes of full frontal nudity. This nude underwater ballet was probably shot primarily for the benefit of 3D viewers, but the iffy 3D transfer really let's things down.
The piranhas are largely created with CGI rather than models, and they look like something stolen from the set of an episode of Dr Who - the way that they swim is very artificial, and they're just not scary. The setting of the movie, a holiday resort with beautiful weather, and everybody having fun on vacation, definitely gives the movie a feel good factor, at least until the piranhas start hunting down victims.
Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd have fleeting cameo roles, Dreyfuss as an unfortunate fisherman in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Lloyd as a marine biologist who helps the sheriff to figure out how to fight off the predatory fish. This film is clearly intended to be a fun horror, but it doesn't catch light.

...you'll probably get mauled to death - probably not a nursery rhyme that will really catch on, but it does tend to describe the film. Piranha 3D (note: I didn't watch it in 3D) is about - you guessed it - a horde of nasty flesh-guzzling fishies eating hordes of scantily-clad teenagers. In fact, fat people were obviously not allowed on set during this production.

There are bad films and there are good bad films. I'm pleased to say this is the latter. You should basically know what you're getting - no Shakespearian dialogue or massive character developments or plot twists, just daft, silly (and very gory) fun.

However, it's worth mentioning that just because this film was very `popcorn watchable,' not every film in the same league is. I've also watched the sequel `Piranha DD,' and, in short, it's rubbish. Whereas this one was a lot of silly fun, the second time around it feels forced and there's nothing new.

If you're looking for some grisly fish action and bikinis aplenty, then you have found your holy grail.

The sight of a topless Gianna Michaels having her legs eaten as the well-stacked porno 'actress' is teabagged into the sea makes this worth a purchase on it's own.
Add Kelly Brook, Dr Emmet Brown from Back To The Future and an implausible and frankly stupid plot and you have absolute gold dust.
Five stars all the way from me.

This film flirts with being a comedy (first scene is a Jaws mickey take, the last 2 seconds have a big joke) and a Porky's style frat movie (a higher nipple count than is strictly dramatically necessary on occasions) but is for the most part a traditional man-eating monster on the loose kind of movie.
It doesn't star anyone you're likely to have heard of, so most Brit interest (particularity young British male interest, this isn't really a chick flick) will focus on the winsome Miss Brook.
Curvy Kelly doesn't have that much to do beyond strut around looking extremely hot in a bikini (or less) but manages to cope with the limited dramatic demands placed upon her quite capably. It is though a role for an 18 year old starlet rather than a 30-something aiming to be taken (at least slightly) seriously as an actress. Brook and an implausibly large-breasted blonde girl (who is barely entrusted with any lines at all) play two porn stars, although the action is mostly limited to drinking tequila off each others' bodies whilst keeping their tops on, disappointingly mild stuff for fans hoping for a recreation of great scenes from Debbie does Dallas. Even the nude scene involves Brook and the aforementioned implausibly large breasted blonde doing synchronised swimming to the strains of 'Viens Malika' from Lakme (which film buffs (geddit?) may recall was used for a rather raunchier lesbian romp involving Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon in The Hurting. Anyone hoping for a repeat performance is out of luck here.
Anyway, when our hero, his girlfriend and his kid brother and sister and the two porn stars, their slime-ball director and a photographer (no lines at all!

Carry on meets the worst of Jaws remakes. More hammy than Hammy the Hamster eating a ham sandwich. I bought it to test a 3D film on my home cinema – poor 3D, so no wonder 3D films for non 3D TVs didn’t make it. It’s a romp of boobs and blood. Look on it as a send up of disaster movies and it almost works. Otherwise, no.
