Pippi is nine years old, lives alone with a horse and a money, and does exactly as she pleases. She has no mother and her father is king of a cannibal island, so she has learnt to look after herself. She gets up when she likes, never goes to school, talks a great deal, keeps a chest of gold coins under the bed, and is unexpectedly strong. The book is full of her marvellous escapades.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny book ! 24 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I read this book to be son (aged just 5) . He laughed so much that he fell off the bed! We finished the book in 3 evenings and then had to go straight back to the beginning and start again. Pippi lives on her own with no adult to impose bedtimes (or even to tell her which way up she should sleep in the bed) - surely every child has dreamed of having this freedom. My son loved the resulting element of anarchy in the book. Although various adults in the book do attempt to exert authority over Pippi she always outwits them. A child's fantasy world will be enriched and fortified by this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pippi Longstocking 18 Jan 2003
By poppy
Format:Paperback
Pippi is an incredible character and has a rather strange way of thinking.
Astrid Lingren has obviously thought of someone she knows, changed her name, and made her more peculiar than anyone else imaginable. She has done things differently from what I expected e.g. the two children who Pippi makes friends with aren't really puzzled by how odd she is.
My favourite bit in the book is when Tommy, Anika (Pippi's friends) and Pippi herself, go Turnupstuffing and her friends are amzingly lucky and find a necklace and a notepad, while Pippi finds a cotton reel and a rusty old ake tin! It made me laugh when she was so pleased with them!
You have to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pippi Longstocking 19 Feb 2003
Format:Paperback
... It is about a girl called Pippi Longstocking. Her dad is the king of a cannibal island Pippi has never been to school and is a bit stupid Pippi is also the strongest girl in the world.
There are other characters called Tommy and Annika. They are Pippi`s friends. Pippi has a horse and a pet monkey called Mr Nelsion.
I enjoyed this book because it is very long and it is about a girl who goes on lots of different adventures.
What I did not like about this book was that some adventures were the same and a bit boring I would give this book 8/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting book! 19 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
Posted on behalf of my student, Nouf (age 8):

I think that Pippi is cheeky and silly. I wish she could be my friend. My favourite adventure was when Pippi goes to the circus. I chose this adventure because it's funny and exciting. I would like to recommend this book, from the age of 5 to 24. There were some parts that were a bit difficult. They were difficult because this book was very old, but I still think that people should read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful 12 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
bought this for my friends who had never heard of pippi longstocking (my male friend looks like her). I took this book to one of our get together's to prove a point and now four couples (adults) and their children/grand children have all read this lovely book.

I would therefore recommend it to all ages, and for mummies and daddies or grannies and grandads' to read it to the little ones.
