About the Author

Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany. At school he was good at art, but didn't think of a career in illustration until he won a cuddly purple cow in a drawing competition. He moved to England in 1982 to learn English and study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art and then set up home in London. Axel illustrated a number of books for various publishers, and in 1993 Kate suggested him as the illustrator for Julia Donaldson's first picture book text, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE. This was the start of a hugely successful partnership. Axel has illustrated a number of other highly successful books, including MUDDLE FARM, and his books have been translated into 42 languages. Axel lives in London with his partner and young daughter.

Pip and Posy are great friends and have lots of fun together. It's a very rainy day and Pip goes to Posy's house to play. They have a wonderful time and they are so busy that Pip forgets - yes, you've guessed - to use the potty. Posy clears up and lends him some clothes - Pip does look sweet in a dress! No harm is done and this reassuring story is just right for toddlers; accidents will happen and are no big deal. The simple text is pitched at just the right level and children will readily identify with this friendly pair. Children will love the illustrations, which show a house just like their house so it is very realistic. Generously sized books, with padded covers, these are really attractive.

Bought this book today for my 2 1/2 year old boy and he absolutely loves it, he wanted me to read it twice before bed! The pictures are beautiful, there is so much for him to look at. This book is especially great for us as we are in the proccess of potty training and the story really relates to him, he even said this story was about him. There isn't too much in the way in reading, just a line per page, this works for us as my boy doesn't concentrate for too long. But there is lots to talk about as the illustrations are so good.

I bought a few books while potty training my son. This one was his favourite. He would even pick it out at bedtime. I think it made him feel less anxious about the odd accident which made the process of potty training a bit easier for him.

I gave this book to a little boy in March, when he was in nappies, and he was STILL asking for it to be read to him six months later when he'd graduated to pants.

It's rare to find a story with potty training themes that doesn't make it the sole focus. And it makes sense too; children do still find time to play with their friends, even if, like Pip, they have a few accidents. Fans (young and old) of any of Axel Scheffler's work with Julia Donaldson or Ian Whybrow will love the Pip and Posy series. Scratch that- every child will love them!

This is a lovely book that my two year old enjoys every time we read it together. It has helped to introduce him to the idea of wearing trunks instead of nappies!

This is a great book, its engaging and Axel's illustrations are very detailed. My daughter who is now 20 months likes reading this story, and we often count puddles, crows, worms together which I enjoy. She also enjoys the story and the games which are played, as well as pointing out things like keys in the corridor and specific toys which are being played with.

This story specifically is really good for potty training. Its a gentle reminder to use the potty in a way which I believe an infant could relate with.

We like all of the Pip and Posy books in our house, but I imagine that when we get to potty-training, this will be very helpful.
