When this is turned up to max the sound quality is great, no distortion and good bass. Only critic is that the bass is pretty deep even when at low volumes but this can be tweaked from your device normally I.e. From iOS device you can select another sound profile from within the EQ settings.
Love the airplay functionality and how it turns on automatically from standby within a few seconds and then goes back into standby automatically after a few minutes of stopping playing music. It really is hands free. The missus and even the kids love it due to the simplicity of airplay but I mainly chose this speaker over other airplay speakers because of its sound quality for the price! I would say you won't get a better sounding airplay speaker than this for less than £500.

The only slightly annoying thing with airplay is that volume is a bit out of sync when first turning the device on, so if you turn the volume up you get a sudden jump in volume to almost max. I think this is probably an airplay quirk rather than an issue with this speaker as other friends have also reported this with other airplay speakers.

Pros
Great sound
Cheap price

Cons
Deep bass even on low volumes
Setup could be easier

I was considering the Sonos system, but was eventually sold on the SMA 4, mainly due to its excellent support for Android (HTC to be more specific) and direct wireless option (as my home broadband is super slow.)

Connecting and set up took about 40 mins. Things get a bit confusing trying to figure out if I was going to use the speaker's own wireless, or hook it up to my home broadband. I went for the latter, and finally managed. It is now visible to all the computers and phones on our network, so you can stream any music from any of the devices, not just internet radio (as per Sonos)

But as mentioned before, the speaker can create its own wireless as well if you did not have internet where you were, so your device can connect directly to it and stream your files.

Connecting to it from Win Media Player, my HTC One X or the wife's Galaxy S3 is a breeze and takes seconds.

Now the sound quality.
I am happy with the quality. It is comparable to the sonos 5, although there is a lot more bass. That is probably the biggest negative I have. The bass can sometimes be a bit overbearing, and not too clean. But overall it sounds good, really good. You can probably see now that I am no audiophile, but I did listen to many different speaker systems before purchasing this one, including Sonos, Bose, Sony, Jambox and a few others. And I am as happy with the sound quality of this speaker as I would have been with either the Sonos or Bose, both of which I liked as well.

So overall, a good Android friendly speaker, that works well, sounds well, and is easy to use.

Oh yes, there is also an App to control the speaker. With it you can control the volume, and play from thousands of internet radio stations.

Beware though, the App is poo. If I was reviewing the App I would give it one star. Just as well the speaker is so easy to control without it.

I don't know a whole lot about speakers but I know my ears and this product blew me away. It was very simple to set up and the sound quality was crystal clear even at an extremely high volume. My only minor gripe was that I couldn't get the small remote to work - which is supplied with the product. Also the bass is a little heavy when the volume is cranked high, however this is easily remedied by stuffing a sock in the back as advised by other reviewers. Aside from those two niggles I would say this is a quality purchase, great value and the perfect partner for any Apple product (I regularly use my iphone 5s and Mac Air with it). Go buy it!

ordered monday lunch time, arrived 9.30am next day, Apart from the instuctions being on 1 large poster size sheet set up was easy. Connected Ipod via USB port at the back, pressed buttons as instucted, pop appeared on Ipod asking to share settings. Pressed allowed, and after a few seconds connection made. (for some reason I can't get a solid blue light for the connection only flashing. However this hasn't affected performance). A lot of comments made re being to much Bass with this product. I am using the remote app to control and play Itunes on the speaker. On Itunes if you go into 'view' and then 'show equaliser' you can choose the setting which best suits your ears. I don't find the bass an issue. Like the ability to control it from itunes direct from your PC, when working at desk.
Overall really impressed, loud enough to hear all over ground floor of house if needed, no more fiddling around putting ipod into dock, love it.

A bit bass heavy but otherwise a good solution compared to the speakers in my laptop. The latest software update gives radio playback via Android/iOS.
