I own the pdp508xd.. nearly same tv spec wise, excellent plasma and with 1080p/24hz engaged its unbelievable.. black level is better than my panasonic crt!! there expensive for a reason there the best. buy one!

I don't actually own this particular model, I truly wish I did, but I am very familiar with it. The reason for posting a review is that this model alongside it's 60 inch big brother has long been held as the benchmark TV by us audio-visualphiles. The reviewer who gave it one star issued it on the strength of the unhelpful staff at his local a-v dealer and not on the product itself. I simply want to give an impartial view so no-one is put off buying this wonderful product by someone's unrelated personal rant. It is genuinely a five star product, you simply won't find a better TV, ask anyone in the trade.

Pioneer has been a pain and is a nightmare, I would NOT recommend anyone else to purchase Pioneer.

The Pioneer shop is within walking distance to my house.They didn't set the TV up for me when I bought my Pioneer, we asked if they could possibly have a look, but said 'no' , they strongly advised us to buy the Pioneer media box and lots expensive cables, which we really didn't need in the end. It would seem a deliberate attempt to mislead the customer just to sell more products. They won't hopefully survive this financial climate treating their customers in such a manner.

Finally, we paid an additional £700 to have the TV properly installed with the correct supporting equipment. Pioneer customer service technician wouldn't visit preferring to give advice over the telephone over an extended period, however, it only took the independent company technician 2 Min's for the find the error in the set-up menu to solve the problem and informed us the we didn't need the Pioneer media box and other cables as the TV already has the supporting sockets.

I wouldn't choose Pioneer TV in the first place if I knew this was going to happen.
