Simple install, no drivers, recognised by Vista and Nero Burning Rom straight away.

Word of caution though on the Free copy of Nero 8 that's bundled with the drive; The chaps at Nero seem to think you want every aspect of your media handled with Nero, choose the CUSTOM install option and deselect the 25 odd utilities it wants to install and just go for the Burning Rom program!

Pioneer Quality 28 Jan 2010
By A. Stevens TOP 500 REVIEWER
Bought this to replace the earlier DVR-115 which has been is use for a few years. This DVR-A18L (or the S18L SATA), is sold elsewhere as the DVR-118. In fact it will come up as such in the control panel. Anyway, this burner is quiet, quick and free of vibration. It has a sturdy slide compartment which opens and closes with that unique quality feel and sound. I didn't bother with the bundled software, as I'm not a great lover of Nero. Labelflash is not the same as Lightscribe. The discs are totally different. I downloaded Labelflash Driver software from Fuji's website. This will allow you to use existing labelling software.
Disc burn quality is top notch. Very few C1 errors and no C2 errors. Shop around for prices. Even at this price, this machine is excellent value.
The LG is quicker, but more haste and less speed make fewer mistakes.

I bought this as a replacement for my Power Mac G4 Superdrive, which like many others has stopped working properly. having read reviews here and elsewhere, I bought this, and must say it's a load fast than the existing Superdrive. Open her up, remove the existing drive, slot in the new one and away you go. No software needed. Remember to set the drive to 'master' if you're replacing the existing drive - mine had the 'slave' setting as the default when I unpacked it. Do a web search if you're not sure.

One caveat - on my Mac (mirror-door Dual 1.42 G4), you MUST remove the flat front panel on the CD drawer - the bit with 'RW', 'DVD Multi Recorder' and the Compact Disc logo embossed on it, as the Mac's CD door aperture is too small for the drawer with this still on it and the drawer won't open once you've installed it - thanks Apple! It does come off easily - it's just clipped on, but please remember to do it CAREFULLY!!

Works well and easy to mount. Good price and value. Free Nero software works well, when some other software did not.
