Fantastic drive (that's now replaced my flakey old LG)! It supports super-fast 12X writing speeds on some of the major brands of BD-R 4X/6X media, and I'd guess Pioneer will add more/other brands for 12X writing to newer firmware versions in due course(like they normally do). Writing and reading quality is 'very acceptable' (inc. DVD and CD) and I've had absolutely no coasters from it either! Like some drives, this drive is not overly noisy when reading certain discs. However, the BDR-206DBK is a bulk/bare drive and therefore does not come bundled with any burning/playback software and it also has a fairly generic-looking black front bezel. I wasn't looking for software or a stylish front bezel, but if that's what you want, then Pioneer's retail version (BDR-S06XLB) comes bundled with CyberLink's excellent 'BD Solution' and also has a tasty looking piano-black front bezel and some other features that the standard BDR-206DBK doesn't have. So, a great all-round drive at a reasonable price, with the kind of quality and reliability that one would expect from Pioneer... Hence, 5 BIG stars from me!

Never Fails 26 Jun 2011

This Pioneer writer is the best yet - I have burnt 20 disks using Verbatim 25GB BD/RE
and each one has been successful (Via DVDfab Blu-ray) - I recommend this burner to
everyone.

if it was replaced")

I've been using Pioneer units for a while, they still have a good reputation for making reliable optical drives. After some adventures with the first unit not arriving and having to wait quite a while, I finally received my very blu-ray writer.
In terms of what it can do, this is one of the more complete optical units because except the dead format HD-DVD it can read and write everything.
About it's performance, so far I have fed him only one Verbatim blu-ray to burn, which it did at only 4x speed for a blank disk that was rated 6x. Not very flattering for Pioneer and their claim of 12x speed. Now I have to wait and see what happens with the written BD in time.
The main use so far of the unit has been to play blu-ray movies and has done so acceptably, there was only one instance in which there was some stuttering of the movie.
As I am satisfied with this product, I plan on buying another one at a later date. And will recommend to others to buy it.
