I'm not a music or sound systems geek, I was looking for a decent AV system but didn't have £300-400 budget. I opt in to this AV receiver as a replacement of my broken home cinema receiver from LG. I attached my existing passive speakers from LG to the system, works fine in Stereo mode. I received good support Richer Sounds, they explained me I need to use an active subwoofer, which I did (purchased a Yamaha YST-FSW050, also a decent subwoofer for a good price). Passive subwoofers are not supported by this system. Now, my TV is connected to output HDMI, my Sky, PS, and tablet is connected to input HDMI and I can get pretty good sound, switch easily from one to another (there is a few seconds delay in switch, not a big deal). One thing I liked was, as soon as I attached my Yamaha SW, sound level was automatically balanced with speakers, so I don't need to play with the bass level all the time. All in all, good price for a decent system, recommended.

I'm not an audiophile, I just wanted a box that would allow be to connect four HDMI sources to my TV and redirect the audio to some external speakers, the ones on the TV being a bit rubbish. For this task an AV receiver is probably overkill but I couldn't find anything else which would do the job.
So, some niggles:
- It's massive. Absolutely, shelf dominatingly, perplexingly huge. - The on-screen names of the inputs are hard-wired so input one (for instance) is always called "CD/DVD" and another is always called "BD" even if you have your PC and XBOX plugged in. Would have been better to called them HDMI1, HDMI2 etc. - The remote is massively over complex for the task at hand. - The screen is pretty big but fails to tell you really useful things like the input format and output formats.
The audio output is okay. The virtual surround sound modes are awful though. The video output is, as you'd expect, fine as it's simply doing a digital pass-through.
Having said all that, it does the job and seems fairly sturdy. Happy with it, not delighted.

I've been wanting to get a receiver for years now and didnt even know they now came with HDMI so was so happy when richersounds was offering this for £139, reduced from £199
My previous setup had always been my htpc with xbmc outthru hdmi into a hdmi switchbox, alongside tivo and xbox.. out from the switchbox to the tv and out from the tv headphones to my dolby pro logic hifi rack, worked fine only pain was having to switch from stereo to pro logic when playing music or movies
Let me jump straight to my problems... INCOMPATABILITY!!! 1 my pc (htpc) showed a purple hue 2 my Virgin media Tivo played only sound, No Picture 3 My pc also never played back in surround sound (more on that later) Xbox worked ok
After deleting drivers and reinstall graphic cards and setting Tivo to all output sizes 720, 1080p /i and also googling my prolems I gave up and decided it was time to return this back to the shop and maybe invest in a HDMIless audio setup.
In the meantime I needed to watch tv so plugged htpc and tivo back into switch box After the movie I decided to kick some ass on COD so turned on the xbox but it was plugged into the pioneer so i plugged the output from the pioneer into the switchbox.
Later for some weird reason I plugged the pc and tivo back into the pioneer and EUREKA!!! both showed up crystal clear, took off the switchbox... same problem. I dont know if the switchbox is amping the signal or something but im now able to use as i wanted..Read more ›
