Product Description

Pinter's Progress and The Homecoming capture the inspiring life and work of Harold Pinter, the writer and Nobel Leureate. Documentary Pinter's Progress from BAFTA-winning director, Phillip Saville is an intimate take on Pinter from conversations with actors and directors who have worked closely with him, including Sir Michael Caine, Jonathan Pryce, Steven Berkoff, Susannah York and Sheila Hancock. The Homecoming - Directed by Pinter's long-favoured collaborator Sir Peter Hall, The Homecoming tells the tale of an expatriate philosophy professor returning to England with his new wife only to uncover bitter family jealousies. Widely regarded as Pinter's greatest play, this lost gem of 1970's cinema is packed with the blistering dialogue that became its author's trademark. Stars Ian Holm, Paul Rogers, Vivien Merchant and Cyril Cusack.

Once seen, you will not forget THE HOMECOMING and its biting, often vicious look at families and the ancient war waged on women by certain men. Pinter nails both social issues perfectly and with chilling accuracy. Known for his precise choice of words where every pause, every stop screams out the unspoken, Pinter is at his best here.

You probably won't have fun watching the characters slice each other apart in this play, but you will keep watching them to the bitter end. And you will probably revisit it in your mind many times. A brilliant play by a brilliant Pinter. Not to be missed.

The second feature: PINTER'S PROGRESS is a gem of impressions and comments by actors, writers, friends of Pinter's, assembled by a discerning Phillip Saville, friend and colleague of Pinter. With Pinter's death in 2008, 'documentaries' like this are invaluable historical records for fans and researchers alike...not to mention their being a mesmerizing look into a great creative artist, Harold Pinter. Highly recommended!
