Product Description

Product Description

France, 1961. Pinpoint - codename for assassinations of top-level ministers. France is being torn apart by a bitter internal struggle between De Gaulle and the Colnels. Car bombings and shootings are the stock in trade of both sides. No one trusts anyone else; those appointed to protect De Gaulle kill each other as often as the enemy. There is one man, codenamed Diderot, whose loyalty is above suspicion, a man so deep in the enemy's organisation that he has bloodied his hands in their cause. Now all the security forces in France want his head, even his one-time friends, for Diderot has a partner who has gone rogue, who has acquired an insatiable appetite for killing...Diderot can only turn to one man to help him: an Englishman named Harry Metcalfe. They vow to stop the killer, not knowing that their hunt will take thirty years, when, irony upon irony, their target will be President-elect of France.

About the Author

George Brown was born in London. During the War of the Running Dogs he spent four years on Special Operations in Malaya, intelligence gathering and conducting seach-and-kill missions against Communist terrorists in the jungle of Johore, as part of the 10th Federal Jungle Company of the Malaya Police Service. After a brief spell with the Johore Service he joined Socfin, a French plantation agency, and worked as a rubber planter, mainly in central and north Malaya. During the events described in Pinpoint, he was invited by the French counter-espionage service (SDECE) to go to Paris with a watching brief on a suspected plotter. In the 1970s George Brown returned from Malaya to run his own farm, where breeds pigs and horses, and grows onions and sweet peas. Pinpoint is his third novel. His previous novels, Ringman and The Double Tenth, are also published by Arrow.
