Firstly let me say there is nothing to touch this editing software unless you want to spend an awful lot more cash.
It has all the features someone wanting to edit home movies or amateur video could wish for, sound effects, synthesised music which fits your video clip, fully customisable titles and menu's, superb compatibility and a beautiful user friendly design which is uniquely intuitive yet not simplistic. The DVD/CD burning options are also comprehensive.
So why beware.......?
Well, like its predecessor Studio 8 it suffers from certain problems, I will not call them bugs because on some machines it will run faultlessly. In order to see for yourself some of the problems look at www.pinnaclesys.com then go to the support area and read some of the posts on the Studio 9 user forums. Incidentally I see these forums as a good thing and the help provided on them can be invaluable.
In summary this software, when working properly on a high spec pc, thoroughly beats the opposition, but do your research before buying.

I like a lot of people own a digital camcorder and wanted to download footage to my pc. I chose Studio 9 because of the excellent features and good value of the product. I was originally planning on buying Studio 8 but after reading the reviews was put off by the tales of crashes and lost work. None of these problems seem to have been carried across to version 9 and it works like a dream. VERY VERY easy to use with clear on screen functions. Contains more than enough editing funtions and tricks to give your home movies that professional touch. I'm running a AMD Athlon XP1400 with 512mb of ram and a 64mb video card and even this low spec machine can handle to functions with ease. It does slow to a crawl when you come to render the final video footage (670mb mpeg took 2hours!!) but a new AMD XP24002 chip should solve that. Overall, an excellent package with none of the reported Studio 8 problems

For many months I agonised which program to buy, Pinnacle Studio or Ulead Videostudio? Both are cheap (in the world of video editing) and have many similar functions. I tried both in trial versions for identical tasks over a month. Although the capturing, editing and burning were roughly the same the Pinnacle interface was much easier and quicker to use. However, all I read about at Amazon and in video magazines was the appalling reliability constant crashing of Studio 8 and the Ulead option was the way to go! Much preferring the Pinnacle interface I went against all the advice and bought Pinnacle Studio 9...The program is an absolute gem!!! No problems whatsoever on installation, registration, capturing (both MPEG and full DV), editing (using multiple animated titles, menus, complex frame arrangements and speeds, voice-overs, constantly changing backgroud music tracks with the original live sound footage, filters, effects etc. WHAT EVER I THREW AT IT!!!), burning (all types of DVD, streaming files for internet, AVI, MPEG, animated slideshows). There are too many functions to list but everything you need is there. The recognition of 16:9 widescreen is a big plus as is the ability to produce genuine surround sound movies choosing which speakers you want which sound and when coming out of, just great! With the software you get a free bonus DVD, install it! It has many extra alpha magic transitions which are very useful rather than just flashy, a few more smart sounds but best of all superb colourful motion menus for the start of your DVD (the regular ones in the main program are a bit naff). The user manual is very good as is the video tutorial. I am extremely pleased with Pinnacle Studio 9 and glad I did not buy Ulead. Please remember digital video work on your home PC takes alot of power to get great results. Studio 9 is a powerful program and although it has minimum requirements you can never have too much raw processing power in your PC. Use XP, P4 processor over 2.5Ghz, Firewire (iLink), decent video capture card, loads of RAM, mega loads of hard drive (4.5 mins raw video data uses 1Gb) and you'll make DVD's people will be astonished with.

Don't Buy. Too many bugs, Crashes Hangs when rendering!
