Studio 9 Upgrade,

Major installation problems, I'm afraid! I purchased the product to upgrade from Studio 8.10.4.0. I proceeded to install the main program followed by the 'Bonus Content DVD' disk. Studio would not run. I un-installed and re-installed 3 times but to no avail. The program seemed to try hard to start-up and then hung, requesting 'please insert a disk into your CD/DVD drive and re-start the application'. I went to the Pinnacle website and immediately found a patch (9.0.4) - dated February 19th, 2004, labelled 'Studio 9. Urgent Update'. This patch is designed to address 'sluggishness on some PCs running Studio 9', installations on drives other than the C: drive, and failure to recognise certain Sony DVD writers. Installation problems were not mentioned although I do have a Sony DVD writer as my E: drive. Anyway, once I had installed the patch the program started-up OK. If Pinnacle are aware of such problems then why are they not bundling the patch with the main product or at least informing the customer of the need to obtain and install the patch? That would have saved me a lot of time and effort!

I can't really rate this product because it has never worked properly from the day it was installed. I am a software engineer by trade and this product shows every sign of inadequate testing before being released to market. I run a highly spec'ed XP Pro system and even after trimming all start-up processes down to the bone, disabling firewalls etc to provide dedicated resources to Pinnacle it still failed dismally. In brief, it appears to be stable as third-world economy and the origin of more crashes than the M25. The technical support is an oxymoron, being neither particularly technical and singularly unsupportive. Go for Ulead Video Studio 8.0 instead. It works straight out the box and does exactly what it says on the tin!

I purchased an upgrade from studio 8 to 9. And on install I was asked to delete studio 8 which I did. On installing studio 9 as far asI got was " cannot find file createdir" try as I might could not install studio 9 upgrade. On contacting tech desk the only static reply was re-format the hard disk. Which I was not prepared to do so I did the next best thing tossed it in the rubbish bin
