Not An Outstanding Product, 6 April 2006
This review is from: Pinnacle Studio Plus v10 Titanium Edition (CD-ROM)
I have created dozens of projects using the latest version of Studio 9 and have successfully edited movies with minimal crashes, although I wasted several empty DVDs as sometimes the burning method crashes. I am a Studio user since Version 9 started. This new version 10.5.2 (after downloading latest patch 31/03/06) is WORST. I could not even pass the EDIT stage, and the program keeps on hanging and crashing. Could not blame my computer, as I have 1024kb RAM and a space of at least 100GB in my hard disk. Probably, the program could not handle frames from different mpeg files and pictures from several folders. I am only working on a 30 minute film! After installing the program, which took so much time and hard disk space (at least 3GB), the program could not successfully read studio 9 projects. You get missing pictures or frames. I have given up! I have decided to go back and use my Studio 9 Plus. I will just sit and wait till Pinnacle corrects all the problem related to Studio 10. Still a program with bugs. Suggest you stick to Studio 9, if you don't require to download your movie to ipod or psp. Studio 9 Plus is not much different from Studio 10 Plus, apart from the number of transitions. I put a 2-star and not 0-star in the event there is a chance that Pinnacle would sort the problems out ASAP.

Great DV and HDV workflow., 9 Sep 2006
This review is from: Pinnacle Studio Plus v10 Titanium Edition (CD-ROM)
I have been using this product for complex projects. I was thinking about using other applications such as Avid Xpress od Avid Liquid to do this job but Pinnacle Studio was a good and much cheaper choice to do a 30minutes documentary. Editing DV and HDV works pretty well on a 2,8 Ghz machine. Mixing different formats in a singel timeline is a great feature. Also creating HD slideshows from highres images is an impressive feature. I highly recommend version 10.6, the software had some problems in earlier releases.

Oinnacle Studio, 26 July 2006
This review is from: Pinnacle Studio Plus v10 Titanium Edition (CD-ROM)
It is hard to find something good to say about this product. As far as I'm concerned, a movie maker that can't make movies - i.e. burn a DVD is pointless.
I have an average computer - 512 Mbytes of Ram and so on. If this is not enough I expect an application to tell me. Pinnacle does not say this is a problem so I expect the software to perform. If it is my fault, then tell me. But why does it work sometimes and not others?
After twenty attempts I managed to burn a 3 minute DVD without error. Fortunately I'd learnt through bitter experience to always use re-writeable DVDs. Asking it to burn a second DVD by simply clicking `Make Disk' again gave me a stuttering stumbling parody of the movie. Getting a good burn is a matter of serendipity.
Secondly, the cute little trick of making you pay each time you want to use an additional 'feature' is beneath contempt in my opinion. Would you buy a car only to find that the brakes are an optional extra?
Don't waste your time re-living everybody else's experience with this product - don't go near it. I personally think it should be withdrawn from the market and every customer given a refund. This isn't the pinnacle of anything, it's the nadir.
If Windows Movie Maker would burn DVDs I'd use that. In the meantime I'm looking for something else, but this has taught me a lesson in that it is a mistake to assume all modern software is good on the basis it wouldn't survive if it was bad.
One might imagine Studio 10 had overcome all these problems. Judging by the Internet views - it hasn't. In fact it is worse. As someone once said to me - employ this person at your peril.
