This CD is my favorite music score from the Pink Panther movie series. That's a tough choice to make, since I also especially love the music from the original movie in the series, The Pink Panther (Music from the Film Score) (1964 version), but I slightly favor the score from "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" because it's got more variety. It's a great blend not only of the beautiful romantic tunes that Henry Mancini is famous for, but also shows his talent for composing darker, sinister music for the criminals in the story, and even includes a German polka for a beer fest. Also, four tracks focus on the familiar "Pink Panther Theme" and "Inspector Clouseau Theme" that Mancini included in previous Pink Panther films. Sound quality is very good with low distortion, in stereo though not surround sound as far as I can tell. The last 6 (of 18) tracks are listed as "bonus," and they include some great music that I suppose was not on the original LP. (By the way, if you want to get the soundtrack to the 1964 film "The Pink Panther," it's a better deal to get it combined with a later film in the series, so that's on Amazon listed as Pink Panther//Return of the Pink Panther).
My only complaint is with the order of the tracks, since often the sequence of the music on this disc is WAY off from the sequence it was played during the movie. For instance, the song "Come To Me" sung by Tom Jones is just a little more than a third of the way into the CD, whereas in the movie that song was right before the end credits, and a lot of the music is way out of sequence like that. When I'm listening to a movie soundtrack I like to re-play the movie in my mind, so it helps a great deal if the music sequence on the soundtrack CD is correct. So, I made my own CD from this and got the music in the correct sequence, and also added tracks from Revenge Of The Pink Panther: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which is another fun soundtrack from the 1978 film. Maybe some people don't care about getting the order of the music correct, though.
The graphics on the case and in the booklet are great, too! The booklet unfolds to show a lot of photos from "The Pink Panther Strikes Again," as well as a mini-poster from the movie that measures about 10 X 12 inches. The CD is enhanced for computer use, and that includes a trailer from the movie. Thus, this soundtrack CD is lavishly done, and a fine addition to the music collection both of Pink Panther fans as well as fans of movie music generally.
