Product Description

“PR is about managing the flow of information between you (or your business) and the public. That’s all there is to it. These days, the flow is not one-way. You ping and stuff comes back. Some people are handling this two-way information flow better than others.” - Alan Stevens. Ping is not about social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter). Ping is not about traditional media (TV, radio and print). Ping is about both. In this hands-on manual, 25-year media veteran and coach, Alan Stevens shows you how to combine a powerful core message with an integrated publicity campaign and ‘ping’ your audience to raise your profile and profits. Whether you want to promote yourself or your business this book will show you how you can do it at very little cost and engage with an audience larger than you ever thought possible. The rules of the PR game are here in this book. Read them carefully and heed them well. If you understand and apply them, your business will soar. None of these tips are difficult to learn or costly to implement.

the three Rs of PR. 9 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
If you need a PR campaign and are new to the art of getting publicity without paying through the nose, then this book is perfect for the newbie and not so newbies out there. I've been in the press and on the radio a fair bit. I've sent out my share of press releases but this book was the kick up the pants I needed to remind me what to do and how to do it effectively. Then, the book comes into its own, as it walks you through the modern PR tools - newsletter, blogs, networks, social media - yep, that's Linked In, Twitter and Facebook among others. I do those things too, but this book told me simply and quickly how to make them work.

Why did I call this the three Rs? Because Ping was the Refresher course I needed to Remind me how to use the PR tools I have at my fingertips effectively and efficiently. It gave me the Rules of radio, how to make journalists love me and how to make social media work. Remind, Refresh, Rules. Just what I needed. Release The Book Within

This book looks at traditional PR and new Social Media type PR. The worst thing about this book is that it covers so much ground that no individual section has a huge amount of depth. The best thing about this book is that it covers so much ground that however experienced you are you will find something new for you.

My objective in reading this book was to learn more about traditional PR methods and integrate this with my effort with social media. The book covers so much ground that it gave me this in spades. Not being particularly well versed in traditional PR methods I found these sections very helpful and packed full of useful ideas.

The web based sections I found less helpful because I am already using this as part of my PR campaign. ut even here it was useful being reminded of some core concepts for each of the social networking sites that I am on. I suspect for anyone that is not using Social Media as part of their PR activity that this section will be really useful to get themselves going.

Ultimately the thing about this book is not the separate sections but how to integrate your PR strategy as a whole. In this the author includes several case studies at the end. For me this was the best section of the book. It gave me some great insights. In places I got some good ideas to work with and in others it confirmed my thinking and approach.

If you are new to PR or want to expand your PR activity into different media then this is a book that will give you a raft of new ideas to try.
