Amazon.co.uk Review

The latest 'bro-mance' from team Apatow (the guys who brought us Superbad, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Pineapple Express is the story of Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) and Saul Silver (James Franco), a pothead and his dealer who accidentally get caught up in a drug war between two gangs --with some corrupt cops, high school girls and smalltime henchmen thrown in for good measure. At its core, Pineapple Express is a stoner comedy--a tale of two giggling, loveable oafs in way over their heads. This formula has made for some entertaining comedy over the years -- Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke and Dave Chappell's Half Baked being two of the best examples. What sets Pineapple Express apart from these silly classics however, is the consistency of the humour, the perfect chemistry between Rogan and Franco and the giddily ridiculous action sequences. The movie retains the sweetness that is present in most of Apatow's films, making the characters’ poor choices and violent actions somehow justifiable. The site gags, pop culture references and perfectly timed non-sequiturs only enhance the hilarity. Director David Gordon Green, known mostly for the understated and reflective films George Washington and All the Real Girls, seemed like an odd choice for such a raucous and over-the-top comedy, but it turns out Green's stamp is all over this film (as is his long-time cinematographer, Tim Orr's) and together manage to turn Pineapple Express into much more than the sum of its parts. --Kira Canny

Synopsis

A new comedy from the creative genius of Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Talladega Nights) follows a pair of druggie losers as they reach the top of the hit-list when one witnesses a mob murder and drags his buddy into a crazy flight from mobsters bent on silencing both of them permanently. The film stars new sensation Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Superbad) and James Franco (Spider-Man 1-3).

Utterly loveable 12 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
I really, really love this movie. I don't know why, I'm not a stoner and I'm not the worlds biggest fan of dumb comedy movies, although I do quite enjoy them. I loved the characters, I loved the way it was written and filmed. I thought it was hilarious and a real quality movie, not the same old bull. My friends all seem to think it is fantastic too, we'll be buying about three copies between us at least. I think it is my favourite movie of 08, which is wierd, but there we are.

For me this was one of the best films of 2008, one of the funniest films I have ever seen, and I couldn't wait for it to be released on DVD.
I felt a bit let down though when I found out that the digital copy (one of the reasons I payed extra to buy this version) will not work on a iPod in the UK, funnily enough though Sony had no problems with this in the rest of the world.
This is a brilliant film, but if you are buying this for the digital copy make sure it will work for you first. It should work fine on a PC or PSP.
I didn't think it was fair to rate this badly because of my problems with the digital copy, so I have rated it based on how I feel about the film, and it's one you shouldn't miss.

Soooo funny !! 14 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
This film is brilliant! The first time I watched it by myself and for it to actually make me laugh out loud impressed me. The second time I watched it with a few friends and it was even funnier! It's such a light hearted film, ideal for chilling out with a few mates. I think this film is better than Knocked Up and Superbad. Oh, and Saul (James Franco) isn't too bad to look at ;)
Anyway, highly recommended if you're in a light mood and wanna watch something funny =)

Chemistry of two lead roles
What makes this film brilliant is the chemistry between Seth Rogen and James Franco. It's one of the best I've seen in any film. Read more

One of my favourite films! :)
Although this Is one of my favourite films for it's hilarity, it's not suitable for some due to the violent nature and drug references. Worth watching though on all account!

Superbad movie
This was dire, like a bad remake of a Cheech and Chong movie and was trying desperately to be funny, zaney, supercool and hip but failed to be any of those things. Read more

Disappointing
Twice now I've seen this movie and I can't get past the fact that being stoned and talking about weed just isn't funny. Not on it's own. Read more

Shame on you Amazon. And Sony are no better
Hey there.

I haven't seen the film yet but I'm reviewing the digital download 2 disc version as a package rather than a film. Just wanted to make that clear. Read more

Simply Brilliant
The outline of the film is about slacker Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) being in the wrong place at the wrong time, by witnessing a murder. Read more
