Book Description

2 Oct 2006

Sit up straight, smarten yourself up, find a saucer for that cup and prepare to be Poshed.

What is a Pinch of Posh?

As the bloodless severed head of class lies hollow on the marble pavement of the Winter Palace, it is obvious that the world cries loud for leadership. Through a life lived as an example of civilisation, Mr. and Mrs. Llewelyn-Bowen show how to create a new perfect brand of Posh for a post-post-punk generation, all uniquely (bespoke) tailored so that even you might learn to enjoy 2000 years of culture, spot fake Prada at 100 paces and most important of all, learn how to use "One" correctly in any (and every) sentence. With this book the world can at last rid itself of the evil that is middle-aged ladies in mini-skirts; the morbidly obese in sports wear; men stripped to their juddering waists to celebrate the first day of spring; and above all, street eating.

It's witty, it's barbed, it's not always nice, but who doesn't find tough love deeply, deeply erotic? For after all the ends do justify the means and when the ultimate goal is a Pinch of Posh no sacrifice is too great.
Contents include:
–Creating One's Own Class System
–Keeping and Caring for Household Staff (don’t leave them in the car on a hot day without opening a window)
–Throwing Spanners at Good Manners (toilette, toilet and the towelette)
–Grooming (including downstairs grooming)
–Sportism and Understanding the Sportistic, or Should One Sport with Balls?
–Killing Things for Fun
–When Good Bankruptcy Goes Bad; Life in Prison (celebrate your cell – mini makeovers in minutes)
–DIY Surgery
–Posh Death: Briefing a Florist
–And oh so very much more…Do keep up

About the Author

With his muddied bourgeois blood and inherited sense of Celtic romanticism, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is master of the mysterious and powerful magic of makeover. He is the author of six books, presents television programmes on design, interiors and travel, and holds his cameo on League of Gentlemen dear to his heart. As yet, he does not have a rose (or any other flower) named after him.

Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen comes from a family that for generations has been cluttering up the aisles of churches with courtly brasses and marble tablets to knights and their fair ladies. But, like Tabasco, the hot DNA of her Polish grandmother (ice dancer, knife thrower’s assistant and professional ‘hostess’) makes her who she is today. She is an author and television presenter, and is proud to have seen the Sex Pistols life at the Marquee when she was 13.

I just got this book and it is one of the most hilarious things I've read this year. It's intelligent and well-observed humour - at times outrageous, risque, or plain old silly. Mr and Mrs Llewelyn-Bowen poke fun at the old notion of class, and along the way introduce a host compulsively funny lists, puns and invented words, and provide advice on a range of subjects from the do's and don'ts of good grooming to "doing" sex. Written in short paragraphs, it's easy to dip in and dip out. Great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Hilarious 16 Oct 2006
I saw this book in our local Waterstones and on a whim bought it last Saturday. I spent the rest of the weekend reading it-its absolutely hilarious. It covers everything posh from the cradle to the grave and the posh sex part had me in tears of laughter. It is funny , inteligent and well written. I also like the way you can dip in and out of the chapters and pick up whre you left off . I think this is this years "eats shoots and Leaves". A great gift book.

I found this book hilarious! It was fantastically written and said what others are often to fearful to say! I also loved the fact that Laurence was able to poke fun at himself - very refreshing approach from a celebrity!
