Probably the complete recordings by this group of Capitol sessionmen led by Lincoln Mayorga who is heard on 4 Preps singles.
McDonalds Cave was the big one here and is a rocked up version of Old McDonald had a farm-itself never far away from rock'n'roll.
The brief was the imagery of the Stone Age-while we now know the Piltdown Man was a fake this is great intrumental music on the lines of Johnny & the Hurricanes.
The last recordings made in 1962 departed from the original image with the slowed down version of Irving Berlin's A pretty girl is like a melody.
And that was more or less it until a British group called itself Sons of the Piltdown Men later in the decade.
Padded out for this CD are the Ernie Fields Orchestra -who could be anybody-and Billy May

Great music, this.
I managed to find a copy of this CD while looking for Ernie Fields' 'In the Mood' and was delighted to find this one. It appears not to be the version which was so popular back in the days of The Twist, but at least as good, so I was not disappointed.
I hadn't heard Ernie's other tracks before, or some of those by the Piltdown Men, but they're equally entertaining, although the three 'make-weight' tracks by Billy May and Earl Palmer sound just that- not particularly inspiring, but with a generous 29 tracks in total, who's complaining?
The accompanying booklet is first class - I found the origins and formation of the Piltdown Men especially interesting, with their connections to the Four Preps and Stan Freberg, also favourites of mine.
