The Pilots/Lovely Head single was the fifth and final release off Goldfrapp's stunning multi award-winning debut 'Felt Mountain'.
The single version of 'Pilots', which was renamed as 'Pilots (On A Star)' is absolutely beautiful. Alison's vocals are on top form as usual, very subtle and quiet and even hypnotising, layered on top of a lush, dreamy soundscape of strings and horns. As the song progresses, the vocals get ligher and at the end are taken to angelic heights as they softly fade into the music. The single mix is largley similar to the album version, bar the added sounds and instruments here and there, the faster pace of the song and the faded ending.
The next track is a remix of the album's first single and other A side, 'Lovely Head'. The track starts out very dreamy and quiet, with Alison's smooth vocals drifting along. The track gradually builds up and becomes louder as the vocals lash out in electric screams which are more intense than on the origional version. The track then gradually becomes slower and softer and fades out. A great remix
Next is a remix of single no.2 (re-released as single no.4 also), Utopia. This is quite a generic and bland remix. A dance track featuring the word 'utopia' being repeated throught the track. Nothing special here
The video for 'Pilots' is also featured on the CD and is a good watch, featuring Alison in an airport with gorgrous hair!
To conclude, this single is worth buying for the brilliant artwork and digi-pack casing alone. Another great single from Goldfrapp! (the other CD single contans the single version of 'Pilots', the origional version of 'Lovely Head' and a live recording of the excellent 'Horse Tears')
