Product Description

Pilot's V-PEN combines the comfort and convenience of a rollerball with the fine-writing stroke of a fountain pen. No more messy cartridges or blotting paper: the V-PEN is disposable, with the ink already loaded straight into the barrel, complete with a viewer window so you can see how much ink you have left. The V-PEN is ideal as a first pen for those learning to write with ink because if you make a mistake, the ink erases using standard ink eradicators.

Pure Liquid ink rollerball, Pilot Pen
What is Liquid Ink?

Liquid ink is made from a dye molecule suspended in water, which gives it an unrivalled fluidity, density and brilliance.

When coupled with the Pilot ink regulator, liquid ink flows smoothly until the very last drop providing the same excellent line quality throughout.

PILOT'S PURE LIQUID INK COLLECTION

The benchmark in comfort writing!

Created in 1985, Pilot’s legendary pure liquid ink range is a benchmark in comfort writing.

The ink delivery V-system provides unrivalled benefits in the world of writing: perfectly controlled and instant ink flow, unsurpassed fluidity and record longevity.

Pilot's liquid ink collection offers a wide range of choices for every style: with or without a grip, standard or recycled, retractable or with a cap, with a hard-wearing conical tip or Hi-Tecpoint, the choice is yours.

REVOLUTIONARY LIQUID INK SYSTEM

The V System ink regulator is a direct result of Pilot's fountain pen technology. If excess ink flows from the ink reservoir while writing, it is temporarily stored in the special pen core by capillary action. In that way, amount of ink flowing to the pen point always stays constant. This mechanism ensures that the ink supply remains stable to the last drop.

I love these pens - they're a great alternative to some of the more expensive ballpoint pens that are doing the rounds these days. We have some in our office stationery cupboard from timeto time, and they're all taken very quickly indeed (not sure if that's a good thing or not, actually!)

The nibs are firm, with a nice width; the flow you get from a fountain pen makes writing even the most mundane of things a pleasure for, and seems to improve the appearance of my handwriting too. I'm left-handed, and have no problem with them.

They've also got a good long life - I use mine a lot, and they last about the same sort of time as a gel pen. The red ink in these pens is particularly visceral - it feels somewhat demonic writing with it...

Finally, they don't leak either :)

Having bought and loved the Pilot Vpen with purple ink, I thought I would purchase a black version for the times when purple ink just wasn't appropriate. Sadly I have had major issues with this particular ink. I regularly use the Oxford notebooks that enable you to write on both sides of the paper without worrying about bleed through.

This particular pen manages to bleed through that paper. The black ink dries to a slight off green colour which is not a huge issue, the biggest issue is that this ink continues to bleed through the pages even when dry. I came back to my notebook a day or so later and discovered that the pen had ghosted through 4-5 pages leaving a greenish impression of the writing from the day before.

As time goes by this seems to keep happening and it has now bled through 12-14 pages of my notebook making it difficult in places to read subsequent notes.
I would not recommend this particular pen at all. It is however worth noting that this problem only seems to affect the ones with black ink.

On the flip side, if you don't mind the fact that the pen will bleed through any paper it touches, the overall writing experience is smooth and comfortable and I would definitely recommend other ink colours in this range.

I came across these pens when they were recommended by a fellow reviewer. They are light and very comfortable to hold. I prefer to balance the pen by attaching the cap back on to the barrel for extra dexterity and control. There is never any of the mess normally associated with using a fountain pen, just the plus sides - smooth flowing writing, quicker script, the more professional effect of ink writing rather than biro. Leaving the lid off for while doesn't seem to matter - altogether these pens are very forgiving. The nib genuinely is one size fits all, no scratchiness or splutter. The barrel is just a large capacity ink container which for me has given many miles of clean lines and not yet run out. At first I thought it would be wasteful to throw away a pen after use but I can see why these are not, they last so long and never cause any trouble. I shall buy more in different colours just for the fun of it.

Just a heads-up. Once these pens are empty, wrap a wad of tissue or piece of rubber (or anything else that comes to hand) round the nib, and use pliers to pull out the entire section. It comes out quite easily and cleanly. Then refill the barrel with a syringe, with or without a needle, using bottled ink. The nib and section (the feed attached to it) can be pushed backed in with your fingers. It will click into place.

This works, and you have lost nothing if you happen to damage the nib (which you won't if you're only moderately careful).

Try it! (At your own risk - but, as I say, you've nothing to lose.)

I have always liked writing with nib pens. They give even the scrappiest handwriting (and mine is pretty nasty!) a sense of style and panache and the feel of the nib on paper and the flow of the ink is something that your common garden biro just won't replicate. I found my first V-pen on the floor under a table at a meeting at work. It had a broken clip and was half empty, but I was hooked. It may not be up there with Mont Blanc, but it beats the best that my office stationary cupboard has to offer hands down. It's cheap, reliable and classy.

My only complaint is that the reservoir doesn't last half as long as it should, hence only four stars.
