As a novice middle-aged rider with a fairly bouncy and enthusiastic 5 year old cob, I had been suffering from intermittant back pain and sciatica associated with lop-sided riding and probably lack of core strength. So in an attempt to address these problems and on the advice of a chiropractor I had started regular pilates classes before coming across this book.
I have found Pilates for Riders a truly inspirational book; extremely cheap, readable from cover to cover, excellent photos and illustrations. Understanding the mechanics of alignment, breathing and centring is making a tremendous difference to my riding. My horse is also appreciating my better balance, he seems keener than usual and our training has stepped up a gear.
I know I am more balanced up as the back ache I rarely suffer is now transient, mild and 'on both sides' suggesting I am achievinging a more centred and secure seat. My general posture is improvimg and I have more confidence and energy for riding and (without constant pain), for life in general.
I am sure all riders would benefit from reading this book, understanding and working with these fundamental principles.
Good stuff!
