I won't say this is the one and only book or resource you will ever need -- there really are so many good ones out there. But they don't get better than this.May not be a glossy text, full of pictures of perfect bodied former dancers, but the photos and illustrations are perfectly suited to the style of the book... No nonsense, clear, concise, puts you back in control of getting better. I love my chiropractor, send her cards at the holidays, invite her to my child's birthday parties, but I don't want to be beholden to her or the physiotherapist or any other profession to 'make' me better. The program outlined in this book puts me back in control of the pace of getting my back into shape, pain-free, supple, stable. After following the program for just 2 weeks, the referred pain from my lower back down my leg via the sciatic nerve (for those in-the-know, good old fashioned "sciatica") was entirely alleviated. After only a short time more, many of the long-standing postpartum pelvic pains are eased, and I am walking normally -- in other words the after-baby duck walk is finally gone! I have regained abdominal strength and control I never thought would be mine again after abdominal surgery. I trust this program will be useful for a long time . It has led me to a local pilates teacher for more advice and help, which I believe has helped speed my progress -- but, nevertheless, on its own this book still can be of great help to someone not able to visit a physio or instructor.

Black-and-white photographs and diagrams as well as simple instructions offer the reader a crystal clear, easy-to-follow regimen. The exercises presented are not unduly advanced or difficult; any able-bodied individual can perform them at safely at home. Sample workouts comprised of various exercises for different days offers a starting point for planning one's own routines, and additional sections offer advice for avoiding undue stress on one's back and body while sitting at work, gardening, sleeping, or engaging in sexual activity. Highly recommended.

If you done pilates before, you know these exercies.Just a few warnings about back pain and positions. Good for beginers or people trying to get back into the goove of things.

This is a super book. It communicates well and is very effective. I have had chronic back, hip and feet pain for many years. This book is teaching me how to use my body correctly, which is something I don't think most people realize they don't know how to do - I sure didn't, even though I have been through yoga and dance training. The book is not glamorous and not for coffee table reading. It's more the book you can throw into your suitcase or backpack and take with. It's a book for USE and it WORKS. I feel physically better than in many years, my hips and back and feet are improving daily. This is more or less an operating manual for the body's structure. Thank you so much to the authors for making this information available in an easily assimilatable form. :-)
