Product Description

Product Description

Pilates is one of the fastest growing exercise trends. Now Ellie Herman, a renowned Pilates instructor and author, shows how to make Pilates more interesting and enjoyable. In this book, she introduces the reader to popular workout accessories that expand and amplify Pilates matwork exercises. This book details each prop's unique characteristics and explains how it can enhance Pilates in its own way: the magic circles tone arms, the small ball held between the legs shapes thighs, the foam roller stretches the chest and shoulders, and the large exercise ball builds core stability. The author guides the reader step by step through photo sequences of specially designed exercises as well as variations on traditional Pilates movements. Each series takes full advantage of the different props' abilities to produce results in less time and with less strain. A bonus chapter describes the author's Pilates Springboard, an inexpensive and space-saving variation of the classic Pilates Cadillac. This make-it-yourself piece of equipment provides the same full-body workout as large studio equipment but at a fraction of the cost.

This book is excellent , it's probably my favorite pilates book I have. There's tons of exercises for the foam roller , elastic band, magic circle/small ball and a few exercises with a pinkie ball and even one exercise with a towel. The book is very comfortable to use because of its lay flat binding and the writing is concise and easy to follow along with the pictures.
There's also a "suggested workouts" chapter with programs for specific body parts(like :knee ,foot & ankle ,lower back) to help you rehabilitate in case you have injuries and want to strengthen those parts also there are full body programs for every prop and one multiprop workout using all the props together for a challenging and varied workout ,the programs are laid out as charts with small pictures so it's really easy to follow.
This book is the only extensive source I know for integrating props in Pilates , so it's worth buying.

This book is in the same eay to use lay-flat format of Ellie Herman's other book "Pilates workbook on the ball", and is a great complement to both hers and other Pilates exercise books. In this book, Ellie focusses specifically on exercises using a wide variety of props such as resistance bands, foam rollers and the pilates magic circle/small ball. This is a fantastic companion and extension to the traditional pilates matwork and is an invaluable guide to using these accessories. The excerises are well laid out in sections focussing on the use of a particular prop, with clear pictures and instructions. There is a variety of exercises for targetting different muscles as well as stretching and rehabilitation. The sections on each prop are broken down with exercises in series such as shoulder series, stomach series, rolling series, sidelying, standing etc so you can find exercises for specific body parts using the specified piece of equipment. I found this a really good way of organising the book and made it easy to use. Overall, this book is a great addition to add variety, interest and new challenges to your pilates repertoire.

Pilates books usually fall into two camps, either too easy or too hard. This book is the exception. When it refers to an intermediate exercise, it will be what you would expect in an Improvers / Intermediate class in terms of difficulty. I have exercise bands, ball, and roller but lack the imagination to integrate them with Pilates positions; this book overcomes that. In my view, it's much better than the "On a Roll @ Home" book (by Donna Gambino) albeit that Donna Gambino's exercises are just with a foam roller.
