Reviews

Strengthen your body and maintain muscle tone during pregnancy safely and effectively with this fantastic UK physiotherapist endorsed DVD. The workouts are sensibly paced, allowing you to keep good technique as you get larger - with an emphasis on precision. If you are new to Pilates or want to undertake a simple but safe maintenance programme whilst pregnant this DVD is for you. With a warm up, a workout for early pregnancy and one for later pregnancy, you can create a stronger body to cope with the physical changes whilst developing safe posture and movement.

A section on immediate post birth exercises also teaches you what you can do immediately after birth to regain muscle control and tone your abdominal muscles. Includes pelvic floor exercises.

Users feedback is that the DVD has eradicated back pain, prevented recurrences of pubic pain as experienced previously and aided control during labour.

A separate award winning and more challenging specific Post Natal product, 'Pilates for Mums' is also available from Enhance with physiotherapist approval.

I am now well into my fifth month of pregnancy and am really glad I bought this DVD. As well as a warm up it contains two main sections - one for early stage pregnancy before you have a bump and one for later on. In the first few months of my pregnancy I continued to attend my regular Pilates classes and didn't use the DVD so much but by month three had to give the classes up and the DVD has really come into its own. If you haven't done Pilates before, don't expect a high impact workout. What you get is a set of exercises to help maintain strength in your core muscles and to maintain good flexibility and posture during your pregnancy. I'm really enjoying it and think doing it regularly will help me to get back into shape more quickly afterwards. I'm definitely going to order Lindsay Jackson's Pilates for Mums for after the baby is born.

I am very pleased with this DVD, having been to pilates classes prior to pregnancy, I found this very easy to follow and relaxing. It is not about getting sweaty and breathless but about focusing on what your inner core muscles can do to support your body during pregnancy. I would recommend it to anyone but especially pregnant women suffering with a bad back, as I do. I can not stand up straight due to a prior condition but once I have followed the routine I find myself in much better alignment and more supple. I like the way the DVD is split into sections depending on your stage of pregnancy including a section for after the birth. It may seem slow and that you are not actually achieving anything but if you stick with it, concentrate on breathing at the right time and contracting your muscles it will be worth it. Very pleased with this purchase.

I hadn't done any pilates before being pregnant and was used to a much more vigorous exercise regime. The instructions are clear and concise and make performing the exercises both easy and enjoyable. I was very keen to be able to start my normal exercises as soon as possible after giving birth and I'm sure that following this program helped me maintain a much higher level of muscle tone in those important core areas, than I could have done any other way. I did get back to the gym very soon after and am eternally grateful. This DVD was definitely a good investment.

I am staggered at the negative reviews for this product - and am not surprised that those expecting an aerobic routine were disappointed. Clearly they have never done Pilates before, and don't understand this method of exercise. Pilates is all about slow, concentrated movements and deep muscle control, not breaking out into a sweat and jumping around a room following an aerobic instructor. The exercises are designed to lengthen and strengthen the muscles, and NOT to make you feel like you've just run 20 miles. Having done Pilates for the past two years I have found that the routines on this DVD have been extremely useful in continuing my Pilates with my bump. Traditional moves have been adapted well for the different stages of pregnancy, and my back, lower abs and pelvic floor are significantly strengthened - which I am confident will all help me in the latter stages of my pregnancy. I would highly recommend this product, but only to those who have realistic expectations of what Pilates is actually all about!

I have been doing pilates for the past 3 years and so bought this dvd in the hope it would help me keep a certain level of flexibility and strength as bump grew and I was no longer able to lie on my back.

Initially I was very frustrated by the slow pace of the exercises and felt the gaps between one exercise and another was too long with too much explanation and commentary. However, once I reached around 7months this slower pace was an absolute God-send as I really needed the time during and between exercises to shift myself and bump around and concentrate on breathing (which is really helpful to focus on in the run-up to labour).

No, you will not work up a sweat in any way, but you are not supposed to in pilates- pilates is about control, not struggle. The proof is in the pudding- I have had literally ZERO back pain throughout my entire pregnancy, my feet or ankles havn't swollen and I've maintained my posture and strength. I always feel relaxed and strong after doing this routine.

I bought the pilates for mums dvd aswell when I bought this and intend to do this as soon as possible after baby but I did do the warm up from the mums dvd in my earlier stage of pregnancy as it was more challenging but once I got bigger the warm up from the pregnancy dvd was just perfect.

I haven't tried the post pregnancy workout yet, but have found the pregnancy one easy to follow and generally relaxing. It gets me moving with minimal effort!

However the flow from one exercise to the next isn't continuous, and I feel repeatedly pulled from my relaxed state as I wait for the next to begin.

The exercises on this DVD are broken up into sections: Warm Up, Early Pregnancy, Late Pregnancy and Post Pregnancy. The guidance given is clear and easy for beginners to follow. Tips are given throughout a specific exercise so experienced people can also benefit. The presentation style is deeply relaxing. I've found that on the days that I have followed this DVD, I can barely feel the weight of my pregnancy at all....bliss!
