I got this DVD about a week ago, and have been right through the series of exercises in it twice. Most of the exercises are very well-targeted, and I have to say that after following this routine, my back pain has pretty much gone away for a time. This is the best possible recommendation I can give to this disc - it seems to work quite effectively.
The actual exercise sequence takes about half an hour, which doesn't sound like a lot of time, but then it is aimed quite specifically at the lower back and hamstrings area. The actual exercising part of the disc is even shorter in fact, as a good chunk of time at the start of the routine is devoted to posture and breathing - a vital subject area for lower back pain sufferers, but not a section that you should need to watch repeatedly.
Allan Menezes is a very competent instructor, he emphasises correct posture, correct breathing, and the correct way to perform the exercises. Using his two models, he demonstrates the exercise for a sufferer of mild back pain, and also a version for more severe sufferers. None of the exercises are so extreme as to be uncomfortable, though I must admit that I found it hard to do the hamstring/quad stretches in the way that he shows in such a way as to feel the stretch effectively. (The quad stretch in particular is very hard on the knees.)
(ps Don't buy the DVD expecting to have your pilates workout with the attractive blonde lady on the front cover - as it says on the back of the DVD 'Images on the packaging may not necessarily appear in the programme'. Sigh...)
