Format:Paperback
This book is good for beginners wishing to learn some basic Pilates based exercises. The book has very clear pictures and is easy to follow. There are sections for abs, legs, back and upper body. However, there were fewer abdominal exercises than i expected and were not as challenging as I would have liked. Unlike Lynne Robinsons books, this book does not concentrate on the very effective "zip and hollow" technique associated with Pilates. The exercises are explained fairly well with some "watchpoints" for each exercises which are helpful.I was pleased to see Lesley mention about the fact weights can build bulk if they are too heavy, and she suggests using only very light weights for some of the leg exercises. I was also pleased to see that some of the pictures of clients in her gym showed the use of a gymnastic ball- one of my favourite pieces of Pilates apparatus- however, these could be misleading as no exercise in the book mentions the use of the gym ball. Overall, this book does offer a good selection of basic exercises, but is not as comprehensive or complete as some I have seen.

This book was better then some I have looked a because it tells you what use the exercises have on you're body as appossed to you doing the exercises not knowing what purpose the excercises have on what parts of the body all in all not the best book I have ever used but it is one one of the better ones

Variations on well-known & original exercises 10 Sep 2001
By "smalltigger" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book starts with a general introduction about "Body Power", which is a technique based on Pilates and adjusted by the author. Each chapter focusses on a different body part and contains a number of (variations of) known & quite original exercises. Each exercise is accompanied by a precise description and a large photo. Although the descriptions are quite clear, I would have liked a stepwise description and/or more than one photo per exercise (although some exercises are accompanied by more photos).
The book ends with special exercise programs for people who have e.g. back problems or who sit behind a desk all day.
My general impression is that this is a good book full of usefull exercises. The author seems to have lots of experience (which lead to comments & tips each exercises). She stresses the importance of correct breathing and this really makes a difference. If you're looking for a book to improve a specific part of your body: this should be a good buy. If you're looking for a daily program, you'd have to design it yourself, taking exercises from different chapters.
