Whereas most LED lanterns are used (and reviewed) as portable camping and caravan lighting, or as occasional dark place lighting, this Pifco Rechargeable 33-LED lamp is very much aimed at being a trickle charged standby light, for use when there is a mains failure.
It is for this latter use that I bought it and I think it is very good at this. I have it fixed to a wall, permanently plugged in to a mains socket to keep it trickle charged. It has keyhole slots for screw mountings, so it is detachable. Its design allows one to keep it powered on (it does not light up when it is powered) such that only if the mains fails does it light up.
One may select how many strips of LEDs are lit. There are 3 strips of 11 LEDs and so one may select 11, 22 or 33. Now, it can be charged up, unplugged and carried around like a lantern, and it does have a flip out prop-up stand at the back to allow it to be stood up, but I do not use it in that way. As a standby emergency light it is very convenient.
It is quite substantial, being about 12" long, 3½" wide and 3" deep, and has what feels like a fairly large battery inside (which is not replaceable as far as I can tell, but at this price that is not a problem as one could just buy a new lantern).
