Piercing the Darkness, 12 Nov 2002
The second in Frank Peretti's well-known series, "Piercing The Darkness" takes us back to the former trials and tribulations encountered in "This Present Darkness." Another town, Bacon’s Corner, is in danger of being engulfed by the demonic forces of evil and it is up to the tiny farming community far off the interstate to put an end to it. Attempted murder, mistaken identity, various cover-ups, and a malicious lawsuit against a Christian school regarding the issue of discipline are just some of the heart-racing events that are encountered. Sally Beth Roe finds herself caught in the middle of these bizarre events, flees for her life being hounded by her ominous past. Her journey is an insightful depiction of our times, a likeness of our passage through life, and a vivid reminder of the redeeming power of the Cross-. "Piercing the Darkness" gives us in insight into the battles between the forces of good and evil in the Heavenly Realms. It brings back characters from the first novel, including the angel, Tal, and his army, as well as that of Marshall Hogan. Across an extensive vista of non-stop action, this time, the stories merge together with a twist where the truth unravels in the end. On the whole, it is another excellent and imaginative piece of work from Peretti and one that I would highly recommend.
