Book Description

I wish I could tell you that I was stolen.

Kidnapped off the street in some third-world country, sold against my will, while a desperate family back home waited and prayed and talked about me on the news.

I wish I could tell you that, because then you might understand.

What really happened? I walked to my fate with my eyes wide open. But before you say I deserved whatever happened to me, you should know. I was desperate. I was alone. I was afraid for my life. You would have done the same thing.

I thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse.

But then, I woke up in darkness, unable to move. There was only one thing I was sure of: I wasn’t alone anymore.

And then I heard HIS voice…

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Different 28 Aug. 2014

Really got into this book, some parts were so dark and some so very touching. The story is brilliant and jeeps you gripped. Autumn was trying to hide from Birdie a ruthless mobster because she witnessed him murdering her parents nd has been on the run for years. One day she is approached by an organization that guarantees her safety with food and a safe home. She signs a contract with them only to find that basically she will act as a sex slave to someone rich and famous. She is given to Tate who is a recluse and once worked for the same organization and was known as the Viper. This story is about their time together. Tate is struggling to overcome his dark and brutal past, and Autumn is fighting to keep her dignity all the while both are starting to get caught up with each other. Don't let the fact that this book is about young people being trained as sex slaves or headquarters (men who locate and train and break girls wills) put you of reading this book, because it's a beautiful story of how love blossoms. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be reading more by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant title and heroine 19 May 2015

This was the first book I have read by Mara Black. I did enjoy the story and I loved the female character Autumn. I loved her strength and defiance. The male character Tate appealed at first because he was twisted and damaged. Indeed he had an alter ego Viper. However as the story developed I found his character to disappoint me and I found him a bit annoying and I cared more for the female which is a first for me. I usually bond with the damaged male and always want to save them. I feel he was too quick to change from a sadistic hunter of women to become a champion. I guess I was looking for a darker male. I did like the story but I do much prefer stories where both lead characters capture my imagination. But don't take my word for it. Give this story a chance. Meeting Autumn was a pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not to Dark, but a Delightful Read 6 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the blurb and decided to give this book a try, so glad I did as it was a really good read with an interesting plot line. I liked Autumn, the female lead, she was strong and feisty even after everything she went through. I loved Tate, he was dark, conflicted, dangerous and gorgeous! I enjoyed the authors style of writing, it kept me turning pages. My only issue was the backstory, I wanted to know how all the characters ended up where they had at the beginning of the book and I felt I needed more detail on how society had got to where it had. This was the only reason it lost a star. I will definitely read more by Mara Black.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 14 Aug. 2014

I love the whole slave idea (consensual) but I do love shocking stories and this gives both! I was hooked from the beginning and loved the idea of imagining a future but not the kind we imagine with modern technology. I just loved the different take on a genre that's written the same all the time. I will be thinking about this book for a long time it is unforgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected 2 Sept. 2014

Didn't know what to think of this book when I first started reading it I was trying to work out what year it was because I certainly think it was set in the future with everything that happens. Tate boy was he a hard man a very dominant man and Autumn she was just perfect for him took a bit to get into this book but in the end I really liked it.

“You belong to me now.”

★✩★✩★ 5 -Dark & Devious- Stars ★✩★✩★
~this review may contain minor spoilers~

I was their property, to abuse and barter as they pleased. All I could hope for was that my eventual owner would be merciful. But what were the odds of that?
What kind of man would buy a woman?

Autumn is on the run. Hunted. Alone, scared and starving; but she is a survivor and will do whatever it takes to stay alive. That is why she turns herself over to Stoker. She knows she is selling herself, she knows what will be expected of her, she knows. She tells herself she is doing it just to survive, to escape the monster hunting her, nothing or no one could be a worse fate than what she runs from....right?
Till she wakes in darkness, and hears his voice. She very quickly learns exactly what kind of man she has been turned over to, she should be terrified-and she is...but she isn't. She should hate and despise him-and she does...but she doesn't. If nothing else, at least she's safe now...right?! I guess it really all is about the devil you know...but does she, could she ever really know or even understand the man who now owns her...

I hated this girl, I hated her for shining a light on all the dark, private corners of my life. I hated her because she made me remember my weakness.
I'd been alone here for such a long time, nursing my anger, with no one but myself to take it out on. She'd finally given it an outlet. And for that, she would pay.

There really isn't much I can say without blowing the whole story out of the water. This really is a book you just have to go into blindly to truly experience the full effect. It is an emotional rollarcoaster full of semi-highs and extreme lows.
