Henry Crabbe is a part-time policeman who runs a restaurant called 'Pie in the Sky'. His first love is food and cooking, but he faces constant interruptions in running the restaurant whenever he is ordered to solve crimes (a regular occurence).

An unlikely storyline, but it works beautifully, mainly thanks to the excellent cast (Richard Griffiths plays Henry). This is a gentle series, with lots of entertainment value and some cracking recipes! It's a pleasure to get all episodes in this well-presented boxed set. Highly recommended (try watching it with a dish of olives and a glass of wine!)

This sits up there with Rumpole of the bailey,Midsomer murders,Rosemary and Thyme,Hetty Wainthrop investigates ,The Mrs Bradely mysteries and Jonathan Creek .Pure brilliance that leaves the American crime shows far behind .

My only complant is that there seems to be a fault with the collection . I bought two sets and one disk is missing from the first set and replaced with two identical disks . On the second set the very same disk is faulty.I have contacted Amazon and still no reply .

This delightful series features one of the least likely looking detectives in TV history, but it also features a great cast, good writing and a format which doesn't seem to get stale.

Basically, Henry Crabbe has to juggle the demands of runnning a proper restaurant, with being a relectant policeman due to circumstances beyond his control. There are no car chases, gunfights and US type melodrama to spoil the enjoyment.

As well as being a DI, Henry is also a brilliant chef and we have used many of the ideas and recipes in this show.

DVD extras are basically an interview with Maggie Steed (Mrs Crabbe). Picture and sound quality are fine. Recommended for fans of Rumpole and quality British comedy.

Thank heavens for DVDs. This wonderful show was broadcast on ABC Television years ago and has not repeated despite demand from starving viewers. Now all five series have been released together in a single boxed set so we can gorge at will.
The lead characters Henry Crabbe - a serving police officer who doubles as the head cook in his own restaurant - and his wife Margaret (played by Richard Griffiths and Maggie Steed), together with Henry's boss Freddy Fisher (Malcolm Sinclair) are given depth and complexity. The episodes are cleverly plotted and skilfully written. One of the stars you won't find in the credits is the countryside where Henry and Maggie live and work.
One problem - no subtitles, otherwise I'd give it five stars. Bad news for the many older and/or hearing impaired viewers who will want to watch.

I loved this series when it was originally broadcast around the mid '90's. I had forgotten about it for some time until I started watching the repeats on ITV3 recently. Wow, it brought back the memories, a program you can chill out and relax to. I was really surprised how good the picture quality and colour was, it made it feel that it had recently been recorded. So I decided to buy this DVD collection. However, it must be stressed that the quality on the dvd is nowhere near as good as on ITV3. I accept it is not bad quality, but nowhere near as colourful and clear as the ITV3 repeats. Because of this, the picture comes across as quite old and worn on dvd. For this reason I have to drop a star. If you are just a casual fan of the show then I would suggest catching it when its on tv. Hopefully a blue-ray release one day will take care of this, but other than that, nicely packaged.

This is one of the most entertaining Police series that I have seen. Well acted by all concerned although frustrating at times as you wonder why Henry keeps taking what he does from his boss Freddie Fisher. The first couple of episodes in the last series seemed darker than most but then the rest were back to normal. Well worth the cost and great viewing.

Wonderful stories, wonderful acting. Gently humorous as the long suffering Richard Griffiths balances his cheffing and police work.
A series to watch time and time again

This video does not contain sub titles. It came beautifully packaged and presented but I had to return it for this reason and was therefore very dissapointed.
