Product Description

Synopsis

Internationally renowned photographer Mick Rock delves into his archives to produce this record of the career of one of the icons of punk rock - Debbie Harry and Blondie. When Blondie emerged in CBGB's and other haunts with lead singer and front woman, ex Playboy Bunny, Debbie Harry the scene gawped. Not only was Harry an exceedingly attractive and sexy woman backed by cute boys but they looked the part. In the late 70s-80s, everyone wanted to be in Blondie. Girls wanted to be Debbie and the boys? Well they wanted to be with Debbie.

36 of 36 people found the following review helpful By Andrew Melchior on 9 May 2004
I have been aware of Mick Rock since discovering that he was behind the lens for the Lou Reed 'Transformer' album cover. I am also a Blondie fan after lusting over Ms Harry's stupidly well formed chek bones as a teenager in the late seventies!
This book captures the beauty of Debbie Harry both au naturel and posed and painted in richly colourful studio portraiture of her and the band. There are some fantastic shots of at home with Chris Stein that I've never seen before.
All in all this is an interesting book as Mick also writes at length about how they met, what was going on and how it ties in with his experiences in New York during the wild post-glam/punk era.
One novel idea is the attached DVD that includes footage of a recent shoot with Debbie and Mick in New York. The best parts are where he talks to the camera about her - hilarious as he is with his mockney cockney accent and wild eccentric hair!!!
Buy this book as a present for your eyes and a stimulus for your imagination if you're into rock and roll and the people who make it.
