Picture It! Photo and Print Studio is an easy-to-use photo retouching and publishing package complete with 150,000 images and 12,000 project templates to get you going. Newsletters, greetings cards, calendars and invitations are just a few of the print-based ideas but you can also design Web pages and then upload them onto your server or send animated e-mail. There are plenty of tools to enhance or distort photos according to your whims. The interface is simple and straightforward; you just drag and drop elements onto your project and then adjust them by choosing items from drop-down menus. I just love this software - you need to play around with it for a little while to learn its full capabilities, after which the fun really starts. It is really easy to use and you get lovely results. It is particularly good for applying frames and special effects to digital photographs - the colours of which come out much better on my printer with this software than with Paintshop pro.
Much of the stuff I do is photographic and of a sufficiently professional appearance for display in the technology college where I work. I also do fun and easy montages of my children for home display. My 6 year old uses it regularly too, to make greetings cards and can finish and print a project all by herself - There are plenty of greetings card templates and clip art for us to choose from. My PC seldom asks me to insert the CDs because I chose full installation - something I recommend if you have the space and will be using it regularly like me - the only one I have to sometimes put in is disc 5.
My biggest criticism of this software is that, although it purports to be the english edition, it contains a large number of hideous templates for activities that are only relevant to people living in the US. This in my opinion is very sloppy of Microsoft, who should have provided something more relevant to the market it was targeting with this product, or made the templates more adaptable.
Overall this is a very good, easy to use product.

The first thing that struck me about this product was its lack of a decent manual. I also find the help very irritating as it keeps offering to show me a 'helpful movie'. Having said that, it is not difficult, in principle, to use. And as a clip-art resource it is very good. The photo editing bit seems to work OK, but I need to play with it a bit more to get the most out of it.
My main gripe (hence the low rating) is the projects bit of it. When I try to manipulate photos in my project the program keeps crashing with an invalid page fault in CPIQDOC5.DLL. I looked this up on Microsoft's knowledge base and it told me to run the repair on Internet Explorer. So I did. And I get the same error. I have also found (and this could well be connected with it crashing all the time) that what I see on my screen is not necessarily what will appear on the page when I print it. This is costing me a fortune in printer cartridges.
What can I say? If you can get it working without technical faults I'm sure it's great. I'm running it under Windows 98. I know someone else who is running it under Windows ME who is having similar but different problems. I would, therefore, hesitate to recommend it as a product. Sorry.

Very easy to use. Still experimenting but good results so far. Encountered constant problems initially with fatal error when programme in use. This has now been fixed with download from Microsoft Web Page issued December 2000.
