If you couldn't get enough of the Durrells after the Corfu series, here's a book for you! Absolutely hilarious and well-written in characteristic Durrell style, The Picnic is laugh-out-loud funny, recounting the ill-fated expedition of the grown-up Durrell family to the Purbecks for a picnic. Larry is as caustically funny as ever, being particularly germ-phobic and Mother tries to keep the peace when mayhem ensues. Wonderfully entertaining reading.

Gerald Durrell was a master story teller. In this case, the excellent scary ghost story makes this a must-read book on it's own.

I've read and re-read this book many times over the years. Very funny and the last chapter is really rather chilling.
