This is the type of movie shown on BBC2 etc 30 to 40 years ago on a saturday afternoon once the test card finished, now only on a Columbia classics release, which like warner archive and MGM ltd edtion set of films are much better than some people have said on other reviews,ok not much information on dvd cover and no extras, but very good widscreen ratio and superb sound, plus have not seen a better b/w print in a long time,it`s crystal clear. As for the movie I think you will like it,yes a bit old fashioned and jumps around somewhat, but this is one of the first to look into drug taking and dope peddling, must be one of the first type of anglo-american co-productions as many brit actors in it including the great Sidney James in a straight role. The Radio Times film guide states that Victor Mature and Anita Ekberg don`t try and act much but I could not disagree more they are great in it,Mature just has that set face in all his films,Trevor Howard has a nice change as the villain. The other thing is worldwide title of pickup alley was INTERPOL which is a much more fitting name for movie as it moves from London,Paris,Athens etc, truly a international fast moving flick in it`s day, great entertainment for a rainny afternoon or evening viewing, but only if you like old style late 50`s movie making,as WE do.
