A great start 28 Feb 2007

A great start to a very enjoyable set of DI Charlie Priest novels. Plausable story lines with nice "one liners" that make you smile and occasionally laugh out loud. Highly recommend these books to anyone looking for a good read.

Having just unearthed the Charlie Priest Mystery books, i thought i would read the first novel to see if i would like the series of books by Stuart Pawson.
The books are easy to read, the plot lines are simple, told in one story idea, no two or three strands, which can be confusing.Nice local plot lines, mostly believable, although in the first book a lot of things happen to our detective in a very short period of time.
Will it make me buy the next book in the series..yes it will.

Hello, Charlie Priest! 27 April 2011

This is the first book in the Charlie Priest series and the first I have read. I have been trying to get hold of a copy for ages (I like starting at the beginning of a series) but have not been successful until I found I could download it on my new Kindle.

Charlie Priest is a policeman, an inspector somewhere on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, an area I know well. Charlie is one of us. He is not driven. He is not a loner or a maverick. He is a bloke with a job which is mostly interesting and enjoyable but sometimes not. He is a rarity among fictional detectives in that he not only gets on with his colleagues, but also likes and respects his boss. He is unattached but not bitter (at least not very) and there is more than one candidate for his affections.

The crime at the centre of the plot is intriguing and you want it resolved, but the real interest lies in Charlie and his colleagues and all the peripheral detail of their lives. It is that makes you want to read on to the end, and then get the next book in the series.

Worthy entry in the series
Charlie Priest is still doing his thing although this one involves a bit more violence than usual. The plot is normal, the pacing is quick, and the jokes as cringe-making as ever. Read more
