This is one (probably the best) of the handful of standard texts on the subject. The text is profusely illustrated with black and white photographs which are very helpful. The author's clear, lucid style helps to dispel any 'mystique'. The explanation of the mathematics of the piano scale is superb. There are some omissions: Fitting new damper springs in the correct manner is not shown, for example. The book is naturally geared towards American pianos, but this is not a serious drawback. A must, for anyone studying the subject.
