I have always been a great fan of Floyd Cramer's piano-playing style, in particular his rendition of 'Java'. I am, generally speaking, not a fan of his slower numbers though. The likes of 'Last Date', while brilliantly performed and hauntingly beautiful, tend to get just a tiny bit on my nerves. They induce a mood of thoughtfulness and quiet reflection - and my life is definitely not conducive to that sort of thing. Luckily, this collection is full of much more lively numbers.

1. 'Dizzy Fingers'; Fabulously played by Mr Cramer and accompanied by a lovely string arrangement.

2. 'The Entertainer'; Gets off to a bad (ie painfully slow) start but becomes a toetapping cracker as it continues.

3. 'Canadian Sunset'; Puts me in mind of an advert for BOAC. Some very sinister background vocals on this one. I can just imagine them all mooching about in the recording studios with white sheets over themselves.

4. 'A Walk In The Black Forest'; Sounds like Deryck Guyler and his washboard in the background but a very cheerful tune. Listen out for the cast of 'Rentaghost' on this one as well.

5. 'Sunrise Serenade'; Seems to be at the wrong tempo. Could do with having a shot of adrenalin could this. Perhaps Floyd and his band spent three minutes in some kind of time eddy?

6. 'Maple Leaf Rag'; Now you're talking! Lively and quite simply brilliant. Again, some nice work with the strings.

7. 'Near You'; Fairly nondescript and very easily skipped. Sorry Floyd.

8. 'The Old Piano Roll Blues'; An awesome arrangement of this tune. Even the scary singers cannot put me off wanting to hear this one over and over again. With the light on though, obviously.

9. 'Java'; The big one.

Piano Masterpieces 17 Aug. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This is a good colloection of Floyd Crammer's piano. The CD is clear and full, and the piano is well recorded. The selection of songs, although not terribly dynamic is pure "Floyd Crammer." The music is very fine.

Classic Floyd Cramer 6 Sept. 2010

I had this when it was in LP form, and it sounds just as great today as it did when I was a kid. Nobody plays a piano like Floyd Cramer did, and this is one of his best albums.

floyd cramer / last date 17 May 2005
By Brenda Carper - Published on Amazon.com

I have heard this song so long ago and still today it feels my heart with so much pleasure. It takes me back to days of being young yet no to young. It brings back memories of an aunt that has passed away. She also loved the song last date. When I hear it now it reminds me of her .

Piano Masterpieces (1900-1975) is magnificant! If you love jazzy piano music this cd is for you. Floyd Cramer's talent as a muscian is great. I originally bought it for the tune MAPLE LEAF RAG but fell in love with the whole cd.

These are some of older tunes but with Mr Cramer's talented fingers, very nice and relaxing to listen to. Everyone should have one of these.
