Product Description

Night splint for prolonged stretch of the Plantar Fascia for the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis.

When can I use it?
Wear at night for effective treatment of Plantar Fasciitis - particularly helpful to reduce the pain of the first steps after getting out of bed.

Which size do I need?
Measure length of foot. - Small/Medium: 22cm-26cm UK Shoe Size 1-7- Large/Extra Large: 27cm-29cm UK Shoe Size 8-12

How does it work?
The PhysioRoom.com Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint is designed to promote healing following ankle surgery, and to alleviate the symptoms of Achilles Tendonitis and Plantar Fasciitis. A combination of a lightweight polypropylene frame, cushion foam padding and 3 padded straps holds the foot comfortably in a controlled angle of dorsiflexion. When this stretch is sustained for a prolonged period (e.g. overnight) the Plantar Fascia is held in a better position for healing. Research has shown that night splinting is effective in relieving symptoms in over 80% of cases of Plantar Fasciitis.
A removable foam insert can provide greater extension, if needed, while the exterior features an anti-slip surface that helps to keep the foot in a stable position.

Night Splints 101 14 July 2011
Some comments about night splints for people with plantar fasciitis:

What's the purpose of a night splint? One of the hallmark symptoms of plantar fasciitis is that you have excruciating pain when you take your first steps in the morning. Why does this happen? Because the plantar fascia TIGHTENS over night as you sleep. So, when you get out of bed and put your bodyweight on your foot, well, this suddenly stretches it and..... ouch!

What does a night splint do and how does it work? Night splints keep the plantar fascia STRETCHED OUT all night. So, because the plantar fasciia STAYS stretched, you can get up in the morning and start walking without pain. Even more importantly, because you haven't stepped on a tight plantar fascia in the morning, which irritates it and damages it even more, you've eliminated further stress- which gives it a chance to heal.

Do they work? Yes. As summarized in the book The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution, there are numerous clinical trials that have shown that night splints are indeed quite effective at getting rid of plantar fasciitis.

If you're up for trying this treatment for your plantar fasciitis, be aware that you have to wear a night splint ALL night long for it to really work, so, pick one that looks like something you could actually sleep in. The ProCare Dorsiwedge Night Splint is a little bulkier than some, such as the Futuro brand- BUT THEY ALL DO THE SAME THING. It's simply a matter of finding the most comfortable one for you. Some of the things I do like about this particular model is:

-soft padding surrounds your calf
-fits either the right OR the left foot
-has a removable liner for washing

I bought 2 of these splints as a last resort, after years of pain killers from the G.P., and struggling to walk even short distances . I was amazed at the difference, almost immediately. After wearing them for a few nights, coupled with using orthotic insoles inside well-fitting trainers, I now have little or no pain, and can stand/walk about all day at work (I am a teacher). The heal pain I had when first getting up in the morning is gone. The swelling that I used to get after being on my feet for any length of time is also gone. I put them on every night ( daren't skip a night after such good results- I really don't want things to go back to how they were before), they feel a bit strange at first, but you get used to wearing them and they don't keep me awake.

I have stopped wearing all shoes that don't have good support, and have stopped wearing slippers at home. Instead I keep a pair of Nike Air Structure Triax 9 for wearing indoors, which are designed specifically to control overpronation. These trainers are just great and give instant relief. Thinking of getting some more of these, or similar, and just wearing them all the time.

The improvement is probably due to a combination of splints/insoles/trainers. I can't recommend these splints highly enough if you are suffering from debilitating ankle pain.

This splint was delivered promptly and was exactly as described. I am sure that, if worn every night, for the duration of the night it would serve the purpose of helping to cure Plantar Fasciitis. The problem that I had is that it is too bulky to allow me to sleep. Every time I turned it woke me up. I gave up and purchased a stocking type night splint which I found to be unobtrusive and comfortable whilst holding the foot in the correct position
